Top row, from left to right: 18" YCS (HI), 14" Balance (KH), rehandled 20" Sirupate (HI), 20" Jange (HI), 20" BWB (HI), 17" Assam Rifles (Windlass), 25" Chainpuri villager (HI).

Bottom row, from left to right: 15" Chiruwa Ang Khola (Sgt. Khadka), 12" Pen Knife (HI), 16" "Tourist model" (Sgt. Khadka/HI), 14" Seax (HI), 14" Seax (HI), 16.5" CAK (HI).

Only the top row of khukuris are listed in this post. Because I'm limited to ten pictures per post, the bottom row will be detailed in the next post in this thread.

18" HI YCS -- $100 SOLD

sale2.JPG

38 ounces, chandan wood chiruwa-style handle. (You don't see these much any more.) The kardas and awl are also handled in chandan. The khukuri has seen some use and is satin-finished now; the other tools still have their factory polish. The awl arrived without a tip so I ground one on; it's currently flattened from use. The inlays are horn and what looks to be bone. Made by Kumar.

14" Balance -- $30

sale15.JPG

12 ounces. It's most likely from Khukuri House; as they don't sign their blades, I can't tell you who made it. I bought it secondhand in unused condition and have not used it myself. Buy it along with something else and if I can fit them both in the same box, I'll knock $10 off the price of the Balance.

20" HI Sirupate -- $50

sale3.JPG

24 ounces. After plenty of use the handle broke. I replaced it (somewhat crudely, admittedly) with local madrona. I don't see this one failing any time soon. I satin-finished it, as it's always been a user. It was made by the infamous "Exclamation Point" kami, so your guess is as good as mine about what his name is. There was some confusion about this on the HI forum a while back and I'm not sure if it was ever resolved.

20" HI Jange -- $70 SOLD

sale5.JPG

29 ounces. I bought this in second hand, supposedly unused condition; however, there were some minor scratches on the spine near the tip, and the tip itself has very minor damage, apparently from a drop. (The damage is minor enough that I was not able to get a good photograph from it.) As this was purchased to back up my "user" Jange and the damage is strictly cosmetic, I didn't care, but since others might I'm pricing it accordingly. This model is, in my opinion, one of the better ones in HI's lineup, both for looks and performance. I never used it and judging from the blade's condition, it's never actually been used to chop or cut anything. Made by Sher.

20" HI "Bob White Bolo" -- $90

sale10.JPG

24 ounces. This is one of the ones that I'm least happy about selling, as it's a very useful tool and they only made a couple of these. I made a promise to myself to sell everything that wasn't be used on a regular basis and I'm sticking to it, so there goes the BWB. It's a serious user so it received a satin finish. The pointy chape got hit with the "Christmas Bell Mod" to minimize the holes being left in my leg whenever I knelt. This was etched a few years back and the hardened zone is still showing a bit. The scabbard is slightly tight and always has been. That handle is more comfortable than it looks. Made by Bura.

17" Assam Rifles Khukuri -- $30

sale8.JPG

19 ounces, made by Windlass Steelcrafts. Supposedly current military issue in India, God help them. It's really not that bad of a khukuri, but it looks machine-made, the kardas (no chakmak, they're both kardas) are ridiculous, and the differential heat treat seems to have been accomplished by dunking the end in a bucket. (I've etched it. You can see it in the picture.) Buy it as a project or for the scabbard, which actually is kind of nice, or as a loaner for your less-than-careful friends that have a habit of hitting rocks and fences. The scabbard features two thin belt loops instead of one thick one and has a tinder pouch situated near the kardas; a load of drier lint is provided free of charge. ;) If you're buying something else and I can fit this khukuri in the box with it, I'll happily knock $10 off the price. Windlass kamis do not sign blades (I don't blame them) so I can't give you the kami's name.

25" HI Chainpuri villager -- $70 SOLD

sale7.JPG

35 ounces. The horn handle has some figure to it but you'll have to polish it to really see it. Both the handle and blade are finished to villager standards, so my gray Scotch-Brite job was actually a bit of an improvement. :) This is a nice khukuri that I haven't used much; it just doesn't work well for the sorts of things that I do, so off it goes. No English script on the blade (it's a villager) but Bura's crescent moon is there, so I'm betting that he made it.

The Rules

The first "I'll take it," gets it. We'll keep the poaching in this thread to minimize confusion and can hammer out the details via PM, e-mail, or whatever. Paypal is preferred (I'll eat the charge because I'm that great of a guy) and USPS money orders are always fine with me. If I know and/or trust you I'll take personal checks as well. All prices include shipping via USPS Priority Mail to the continental US. Due to the actions of a few knuckleheads, I'm afraid that I can only ship domestically.

Currently up for grabs, part two:

sale1.JPG

Bottom row, from left to right: 15" Chiruwa Ang Khola (Sgt. Khadka), 12" Pen Knife (HI), 16" "Tourist model" (Sgt. Khadka/HI), 14" Seax (HI), 14" Seax (HI), 16.5" CAK (HI).

Only the khukuris in the bottom row are detailed in this post. If you want one from the top row, please scroll up to the original post.

15" Sgt. Khadka CAK -- $60 SOLD

sale9.JPG

21 ounces, horn handle. This khukuri is a great size and weight; unfortunately, the Nepali-sized handle doesn't work for me at all. It's been used a bit but is in pretty good shape. It's been satin finished by me. Those marks on the side are shallow dings from God knows what...I don't recall putting them there, but it wouldn't have left Khadka's shop like that so I must have. Besides the satin finish, that's the only flaw on it and is strictly cosmetic. The karda and chakmak are unused (check out the horn on the karda!) but the karda has a bit of frosting near the tip which will not affect function and may be able to be polished out. No signature, as Khadka's shop doesn't sign their blades. This is not from HI. I purchased this new through other channels. While Khadka's blades are often sold by HI, this is not an HI product. It's a Khadka product.

12" HI Pen Knife -- $50

sale14.JPG

12 ounces, wood handle. These are nice little choppers for those wanting something a little smaller than the usual khukuri. This one's seen a lot of use (and is of course satin finished now) and has some stains, discolorations, etc, but is undamaged and ready for years of hard work. The scabbard is a little tight and always has been. It was etched some time back and still shows the hardened zone fairly well. Made by Bura, so you know it's a good one.

16" Khadka/HI Tourist Model -- $60 SOLD

sale11.JPG

I hate to use the term "Tourist Model" due to its negative connotations, but that seems to fit here. The scabbard's exterior is lined with red velvet and what's probably nickle silver, although there's no way to be sure, complete with the obligatory scrollwork and the word "NEPAL." I bought it from HI some years back and was told that it had come out of Khadka's shop; like all of Khadka's blades, it's unsigned. I've never used the khukuri but it certainly looks to be well made. The trim on the spine of the scabbard is a bit dented, like so:

sale12.JPG

No frog or belt loop on this. It was probably never really meant to be carried, but the throat is humped for sash carry if you're truly interested. Sash not included. ;)

14" HI Seax -- $50 SOLD

sale17.JPG

15 ounces, chandan wood handle -- again, you don't see this stuff very often any more. Blade has been etched/polished/satin-finished/you name it at various times, as I carried this thing quite a bit for a while. It's currently clean, satin, and showing the hardened zone. No damage. I didn't like the original sheath so I made one of my own that IMO is better; as both will be included, you'll be able to draw your own conclusions about it. Made by Sher.

14" HI Seax -- $60 SOLD

sale16.JPG

17 ounces, antler handle. I've never used it, but it is showing a little scuffing from the sheath. There's also a bit of frosting up near the tip due to sitting in the sheath for so long; it wouldn't show up in photographs and is actually pretty hard to find, but trust me, it's there. Made by Sher.

16.5" HI CAK -- $30 SOLD

sale13.JPG

This was to be a project that I gave up on and likely will never complete. I removed the damaged handle scales, rounded the point on the hump a bit, and hogged a decent amount of steel off the sides to bring the weight back to something more reasonable. This guy weighs only 16 ounces now; I'd expect the weight to go up another four or five ounces when the new handle goes on, depending on what it's made of. This will eventually be a pretty good khukuri. Made by "Amtrak" (R.R.) so don't freak out when you see the maker's mark -- in Nepal, it means basically the opposite of what it typically means to most people here.

Not interested in a project? Need a scabbard or chakmak/karda? They're all there and they're all great. Buy the rig, keep what you want, and resell or recycle (or trash) the rest. If you're buying something else and I can fit this CAK in the box with it, I'll knock $10 off the price.

I'll take these - total $90? Thanks!

(And I'll take backup on the chainpuri just in case 007 changes his mind)

Could you clarify exactly what is a "Bob White Bolo"?

From what I remember, a forumite crafted a wooden mock-up of a blade that he wanted made from an old table leg and shipped it off to Nepal. The kamis took a few liberties with the design IIRC but made more or less what he wanted. After that, they made a few more and these were sold on the HI forum. I believe that it was sold under "new sword design" or something like that; the "Bob White Bolo" name was something that the rest of us tagged it with in the creator's honor. I'm not sure if this was ever its official name, or whether it ever had an official name for that matter. It was never a regular item and they didn't make very many of them.

As for what it actually is, think of a very heavy duty machete. The spine is a hair under 3/8" in thickness and the blade has a single fuller. The hump near the tip tends to shift the balance out toward the point. The handle lends itself well to a saber grip.

I'll take the 12" Pen Knife $50. Some really great khukuris here. I hadn't even heard of the Jange. Wish I'd seen this earlier.
By the way, isn't that 25" Villager a Chitlangi? Looks like its got some fullers there.
