large knife sheath materials

IMO cordura with a kydex liner is my overall favorite because of its durability and toughness against the elements (especially water). However, there are some instances when I prefer leather so it depends. (Leather can be treated to make it more water proof/resistant but I have still had better experiences with cordura + kydex)

I like kydex but I usually have the large blades lashed to a bag of some sort.

Hey Hatchetjack,

That first knife looks like one of the Fehrmann FJ's but what's the one with the brass guard. That is an awesome looking knife.

Lagarto

Thanks-

The first one is a Ranger RD9. I took a 3 sided file and scored the grooves in the micarta. The other blade is an old Cold Steel Trailmaster from the 80's. I'm not real partial to the black coated stuff.

You can always use a wood scabbard like this Philippine bolo:

Well not to sound biased, but I tend to prefer leather for sheaths..:)

Although I will admit that I am working on my first kydex/leather hybrid right now...Dont know if I am going to like it or not, but we shall see! ;)

hatchet...I just got my first Ranger knives Rd9 in today!! sweet blade!

It's secured to your belt or strap using a Tek Lok clip. They can be modified for different angles of carry. I believe they are made by Blade Tech.
