guys/gals of the CRK forums... I need your help, badly. I got hit by the sebenza bug (again), and it's all I can think about lately. I've owned some sebenza's in the past, but I've also sold them, so I have nothing to help my craving right now :(

I've been wrestling with this for days; so many options, and it's hurting my brain :)

Large or Small? - Classic or Regular? - Inlaid or Not?

I'm a bigger guy (6'4" and 260 lbs.) and my hands are decently large, but not huge. I wear khaki pants during the work week, and cargo shorts and jeans during the rest of the time that I'm not at work. I am looking for to use my sebenza as an EDC for everything except carry in dressier pants (use various SAK's for that) and anywhere around the salt water (use spyderco salt for that). as EDC I plan to use and carry it anywhere from an office environment to primitive camping and hiking outings, and anywhere in between.

the sebenza's that I've had in the past have been regular style, and large size. but like I said, I don't even have those now, and I'm having a hard time imagining/seeing them in my hand. I am especially interested in seeing a small and large together (in a good picture) and maybe that will help me, but I would also love to have a regular and classic in hand to fell the differences there as well. also, are the inlaid models any better than the standard Ti scales??

I wish I had a way to touch/feel/handle all of them so I could decide. only chance of that would be for me to wait for the next knife show coming to town...

so, this is my dilemma. and, I need someone here to help me thru it. I'm sure I will get a range of answers, but I would still love to hear them.

please help,

Hi

Perhaps you may want to consider the Large Classic MICARTA inlay Sebenza. It comes with either single or double lugs and serrated or plain edge.

The Micarta inlays, along with the blasted frame makes for a gripper feel- this might suit your needs.

Happy Easter

Regards, Neil

I would reccomend a large classic with micarta inlay.

Subdued looks, great feel, do all.

Personally dont care for the regulars, MUCH prefer the classic. Small during the week, large for weekends :)

I'm the same exact size as you and I carry a small regular, everyday. I had a large Micarta, but those bigger knives aggravate me. Seems like they take up your whole pocket. The small has done everything I have ever needed it to do. From cutting paper to cleaning fish.

I have medium sized hands (in Filson glove sizes) and my small sebbie with micarta scales fits me perfectly. I keep it clipped to my pants pocket so it doesn't bother me rattling around in my pockets.

I've always thought that if I ever got a large Sebenza, I'd go with a belt sheath for it.

But either way, I don't think you can go wrong with the micarta scales.

I've had a few over the years and I really like my small plain regular. Not sure why, but this one is just perfect for my EDC.

I recently bought a used large regular sebenza... in the past I've always carried smaller sized folders, but I'm really liking the size of the large. I'm medium sized at 5ft 9inches, so I can see the large fitting your hands nicely.

For an office environment, I think the small would be the better choice. I EDC the small regular along with an Atwood Prybably. They reside in the same pocket and carry very well together.

I find the large to be a nice knife, but, for me anyway, it wouldn't work for EDC. If I were carrying the large, I would want to use the belt sheath.

As to regular vs. classic...I don't know.....I only have a regular.

My recommendation is to start again with the small.

Best of luck.
:)

Hi folks,

In the Large vs Small debate, this is clearly a matter of personal taste.

But, I do have the following recommendation, as iubigred007 mentions that this is going to be a "user" knife;

A 3.5" bladed knife can do the job, and perform the tasks, of a knife of that size and also smaller. However, the 3.0" bladed knife can only do the job up to the capabilities of that size blade.

This is not to say that a Small Sebenza cannot do a wide variety work at 3 inches, but only that the Large Sebenza can do those and still more.

I am saying, to get the biggest knife that you can afford to buy and that is comfortable to use and one that will fit in to your lifestyle and surroundings.

As I live in a knife unfriendly city, I carry a Small Sebenza all the time- but, here in the office I use a Large Sebenza for the daily work- opening boxes, stuff around the house and yard.

I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday weekend,

Take care, Neil

I carry my small Sebenza in urban environments but prefer the extra abilities of the large when afield. The real question for you is how it feels in your hand.

A plain small Sebenza is a little grey lozenge in your pocket that interferes with nothing else. By the same token, I have smaller hands and even I find the handle on the delicate side on the small model.

You might well want to consider the Micarta inlays to round out the handles and give you more gripping area.

Youre a big guy-get a large if your environment isn`t an issue! ;) Im an average sized guy (about 5`10"), carry a large Classic in my right front pocket (501 jeans) and hardly notice it.
However, it makes reaching the bottom of the pocket quite hard. I usually carried my car keys in there too, but avoid doing that these days in fear of scratching the Sebenza as well as that accessability issue... . :o

Small, plain, classic...it is elegant simplicity. Perfect knife for dress pants, dockers or jeans.

Hi from France to every body !

1/ All of us we love the Sebenza because its purity ; and that's why the inlays trouble me a little..

2/ Now, classic or regular ? For harder works the regular seems to be the good blade. The classic one would be more pratical for the ordinary cuttings.

3/ And that's why I need the large regular AND the small classic.

But you know, those points are just personnal ideas..

The important is that you must be convinced that the Sebenza is really the best folding knive.

Sorry my very bad english.

Ever yours,

ANZIOLUZ

Not only is it a matter of personal taste, but you really will never know which you like better until you carry and use them for a while. And tastes can change. I've carried a small regular for more than 2 years. I recently put it away and I'm carrying a large classic now.

Bottom line -- you'll eventually need to get both. ;)

I like the LG reg for EDC, but am on a quest to get one of each size and style just for good measure.:o
