Large or Small Sebenza?

I have talked myself into a Sebenza and am now debating between the large and the small. Unfortunately there are no brick and mortar stores around here that carry CRK for me to hold them in person. I am 6'4" with proportional hands, so it seems to me that the large might fit me better. Any thoughts?

Also, any recommendation for or arguments against any of the types of wood inlay in terms of durability?

Large hands ...go with a Lg. Classic Inlay Sebenza, I find it to be easier to disengage the locking lever. All the inlays stand up great. I never had a problem. But I'm sure one of our Sebbie enthusiasts will be along shortly with more direct advise. After you pick one up, post some pic's, We love pic's.

and Welcome!

i was nervous buying a large sebbie. everyone here seems to like the small.

i went with a large and i am very happy. this is my new edc. my old edc was a ken onion leek. it is not too much heavier than that and it is not too obtrusive in my dress pants(thank god for the titanium). it fits my hand very well. with the blade closed, it is almost invisible in my palm when i make a fist around it.

6'2" here with fairly large mits. I bought a small and I was very suprised at how small it actually was when it arrived. I thought I had made a mistake in selecting the small over the large. But, since I recieved it about 2 mos. ago, the knife honestly seems to have gotten much bigger. Obviously, I've simply become used to the size and now I'm convinced that I made the right decision. At first, it was tough to open with my big meat hooks but with a bit of practice it's become easy and comfortable. I think the small is a better choice for EDC in places such as the office where there are likely to be "sheeple" present. (That's the first time I've ever used that word) (Been spending a little too much time on Bladeforums :) ). Anyway, I'm sure that you'll be more than pleased with either size so enjoy your new sebbie! -DT

I bought a Small Sebenza and returned it, as I found it difficult to open. I think the prob was user error. :)

Later bought a Large Sebenza, and it whips open just fine. The Large Sebenza is not a huge knife by any means. It has more of the feel of an Endura (size wise). It seems "just right" and not too big. I'm an average 5"11" sized Powernoodle guy.

I prefer the look and thin profile of a plain Jane Sebenza without the inlays, but thats purely subjective.

right on

Unless you are strictly limited to the small, I would always go with a large Sebenza. They are fine to pocket carry weight and bulk wise also the extra blade length is really needed for my every day type of cuting. For instance, the small model won't make a single slice through an apple or a loaf of bread.

Plus the handle is more suitable to me - I find the small handle gets buried into the heart of my hand and can give me some trouble with prolonged use. I don't have this bother with the larger handle, plus I have a lot more grip and leverage too.

Model wise, I like both the regular and classic just the same, but I would insist on trying to get one with a double thumb lug. I am sitting here now and can recall several times I've have to open mine left handed, and this very difficult with the standard single lug - something to bear in mind if it's going to be user regularly.

I agree. I own some large Classics, and they don`t feel very big. I`ve also handled a small, and it feels a bit too small for me. Ok, I admit that I was carrying a Spyderco Police (slightly bigger/longer) for more than ten years, but well....... . ;)

Btw-I`m about 5`10", and my hands are average sized I`d say.

That being said-go with a large! :D

I'm 6'-0" and have some pretty good sized hands and the large fits perfect. I carry small Seb occasionally for at work (company frowns on knives in general) and I have had no problems. As a matter of fact the Unique Graphic on gets some oohhs and aaahhhs instead of the usual "what are are carrying that for?" response. To be honest, you will probably wind up with one of each after you get your "1st" one.

I have small hands and find the small Sebenza fits me just fine. The knife (closed) is just under 4" in length and is just about the width of my palm. If your palm is larger, the large Sebenza (about an inch longer) will probably work for you.

As for inlays, if you wear snug Levis you may find the inlays make the knife too think and you'll find it difficult to draw. I carry my inlaid Sebbies only in looser slacks and pants.

I carry my large Sebenza only in the field where the large size can really be used as opposed to my normal "urban" environment.

Another vote for the large. It just seems to fit the hand perfectly and, there is confidence in knowing these is enough blade for most any EDC duty. Not that the small Sebenza can't do most anything the large can, but the large just feels right in the hand.

I have a large hand but I pick the knife depending on the job at hand. The small is fine for most indoor type use but the large is better for typical outdoor type use -cutting branches , vines etc.

The large is my favorite. Due to work restrictons the small gets more carry time. If you can get away with carrying the large everywhere get it. If not, get the small.

I think the large versus small is more a question of how you carry the knife and if there is any real or perceived problem with other people where you use it. When I worked in an office, the small didn't raise any eyebrows, but the large sometimes did. It helps to open them somewhat slowly, and not snap them open in front of your manager. (oops)

If you use the clip or a sheath, it doesn't matter which size, so I would go with a large. If you carry inside your pocket without the clip, I would say the large is too large for loose carry, and go with the small. When I was looking to buy my first Sebenza, Chris (who's tall) showed me his EDC, which was a small, carried inside the pocket. I said that I thought a knife should be large enough to be an emergency steak knife, when encountering dull knifelike devices in restaurants and friend's houses. Chris replied that we mainly use the first two inches of the blade anyway, and that he found it an adequate steak knife. (and related an amusing restaurant story I won't bore everyone with)

Of course, my ultimate decision was to buy both large and small regular Sebenzas. Bridget was a good saleswoman, and left handed versions of both happened to be available. So I guess I'm not the best person to call for Buyers Anonymous. :D

As for durability, the micarta is the best, but for woods, unless you carry hard items in your pocket, your hand will wear them all about the same.

Im going to have to say the small. There isnt one thing yet after years of ownership that i cant cut with the small. Besides have you considered most states have a 3" carry law. Just something to think about.

Large for me, my large micarta fills my hand perfectly. I don't have a small, but I'm almost certain it would be uncomfortable in my hand (just like my Benchmade 940).

I like large knives, but the Small Classic Sebenza is the perfect EDC knife and fits most hands exceptionally well - like a glove.

.

The small for me is the perfect EDC size. There is enough blade for me to tackle bigger knife tasks with ease while being unobtrusive and less scary/tactical.
Oh, and I don't have to worry too much about the law or perception of the size to a LEO. I have a micarta one by the way. What a perfect knife!
