It has been a while since I have posted my work here... I have been busy on all fronts, lately I have been missing this community, I hope to post more often and would love input on any feature or element of my knives.

This is one I call "Large Persian Craine" This design originally came about as a commissioned set that included a Medium (10"OAL) and a Large (13" OAL) Persian skinner made for a repeat customer with the last name Craine. I lack originality when it comes to naming knives!

Large Persian Craine:
Steel: 3/16" W2
OAL: 13"
Blade: 8"
Handle: Stabilized Australian Gidgee
Misc: Tapered Tang, Mosaic Pin, Spine File Work, Differential Heat Treat
Sheath: I will be making one

Comments and Critique appreciated
... Ryan

I don't know much,
Less about Craine,
But looks like you got the Persian nailed!
I like it.
Dozier
Accuracy beats Speed

I love persian style recurve daggers.
Like your design - would like it even more if it were double edged.

Ryan you have a great eye for design.

I agree^.
This piece is positively wicked!
Been missing you on the forum lately, Ryan. Sounds like you got 2 1/2 hands full these days eh!

I don't know about full double edge, but to my eye, it's definitely missing either a swedge or false edge about 2-3 inches back.

The hamon looks great, little high in spots, but not too much, and nice activity.

You know I like a guard in some sort of metal, so that is a given, but this is a very attractive knife, and you have indeed been making some sweet ones lately.

Is the tang tapered?

Take care.....and

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thanks everyone for the comments...

STeven, Really appreciate you posting! I know you appreciate Metal Guards/Bolsters. Guards I love (a personal goal to make more in the near future). Metal bolsters bring up these deep feelings of them looking like Grandpa knives, it is a personal issue. I actually thought about a false edge on this in the process, I can actually still do one and will think about it! Yes the tang is tapered and balance is right at the index finger
