I am 100% new to the blade forums and have a passion for knives! I would love any input any of you have!

Now im not looking for a machette as i already have one But i am looking for a reliable camp knife 8" plus Price range is about 200-350 dollars.

Im looking at several bowies and military knives but i really can't decide and don't have much prior experience with these knives so any input would be awesome!

Can't go wrong with the Browning Crowell/ Barker comp knife. A hell of a competion cutter for the money carbon steel blade good leather sheath and makes a hell of a camp knife. last time I looked you could get one on ebay for a little over a hundred bucks. No kidding this is a hell of a camp knife

+1 on the Barker.
I also just got a Rosarms Bayonet I am absolutly smitten with. It is a bit over 7 inches but would also me a great camp knife. My friend said it looks like the Ames Rifleman knife and I agree. It is the one on the right.

You could also get a Scrayard DFCG or DFLE I have had both and love the DFLE.

Any large Becker.

Way above your pricerange but Busse is coming out with their largest knife ever the UberMistress called a NukeFFBM.

When it comes to a large reliable camp knife I'd probably throw another $50 and make a post in the WTB section for a Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress. There's always a lot of Busse's on the secondary market and prices are low right now....you could probably pick up a new one for that or maybe a good shape used one :D

BUT, I can't ignore my other favorite: HI Khuks....you can get a really nice AK for around $100 in the HI forums here on BF and it'll outchop just about everything short of an axe and is easy to maintain/unbreakable.

The warranty on both knives and the customer service is impeccable.

On the cheaper side, the 18'' Ontario military machete is a bargain at around $30....I got a harbor freight machete for like $4 and stole the sheath from that, polished the edge and have a hell of a user for $34 :p.

There's a lot of knives out there and everyone has their opinion. That's just mine :)

If you REALLY want to know though: One of the best deals in town is a knife from Bill Siegle. Tough as nails 5160 and you can get a monster of a knife for anywhere between $200 and $315. No warantee, but I know he'd take care of you if you encountered any problems with one of his knives. He might have something available now if you ask and DEFINITELY will have some knives up after Blade West.

All of those knives will last you a lifetime minus the Ontario....which will STILL serve you very well!

This may not be as high of quality as the previously mentioned, but I have used my Ka-Bar USMC fighting/utility knife while camping for years. Ive done everything from chopping branches, roots, and firewood, to cutting cheese for dinner, and I've never had a chipped, broken, or rusted blade, and the leather handle looks just as good as the day I bought it. (well, thats a lie, when I bought it it was light brown. Now it's almost black since I've used it so much). https://www.kabar.com/product_detail.jsp?productNumber=1217&mode=category&categoryId=1,2,3,7&categoryName=Military/Tactical

Plus It's way under your price range so you can buy other stuff, and it's almost 8 inches in blade length. (I like leather, but you can also get Kraton handles in tan, foliage green, and black)

I also just got a Ka-Bar camp knife (that's the model name). It has a thicker, 8 inch blade with a bolo type blade shape (great for cutting and chopping), and a Kraton handle. I havn't used it yet, but I'm very confident that it will perform just as well as my USMC, if not better. It is sharp as a razor too. https://www.kabar.com/product_detai...goryId=1,2,3,7&categoryName=Military/Tactical

Again, compared to these other knives listed, some of these guys might laugh at these knives, but they have served me very well.

The knife on the right looks really good, but it can't be a bayonet as it has no fixings to allow it to be fixed to a service rifle which is the definition of a 'bayonet'. It looks really well made and is nicely ground. It is a good recommendation for the OP.

No laughs here brah, that's one of the first knives I ever got and it's still tickin :D Kabars are made of 1095....good steel. There's a reason why they were used for so long ;)

Affordably priced, tough, solid: time tested materials.

Get yourself a Becker, I love it. You can still find these in the for sale forum here.

Can't go wrong with the BRKT Canadian Camp knife:

I can't argue with Andrew Colgazier or Chuck Schilling: the Bark River Canadian Camp knife deserves some of your scrutiny.

Unless you're set on a tactical looking knife, consider this one:

Marine Kabar, not sexy, but it gets the job done every time. Affordable, versatile and strong as hell. Can even hack and chop in a pinch.

Ka-Bars were once the standard by which to measure a campknife, but watch this destruction test before you decide. http://www.knifetests.com/page6.html

Check out Scott Grossman and his Line of Tuskers ! :D they are Indestructible. He is here on the forums, also Dan Koster ...
