Large Sebenza 21 Box Question

Hey fellow knife enthusiasts. I just received my first CRK. I got a large lefty Sebenza 21. The question I have is, the born date for the knife is June 2016 but it arrived in a box reminiscent of the older style without Styrofoam. The knife came wrapped in the cloth. Is this a fairly new switch to the old style boxes?

Got a pic of it? I was told recently that there was an issue with the cloth being changed temporarily. I don't remember if it was the old style cloth. Didn't hear anything about the box.

Authorized dealer purchase?

I am still trying to figure out posting pics. It was bought from an authorized dealer out of Michigan that will ship your knives free of charge.

It came in a small white box with some stickers of awards and the logo along with the knife description stickers. Inside had the knife wrapped in the towel with the wrench taped to the top and all the paperwork under the knife and towel

Yes, CRK has sent out the older style boxes on some knives. I have 2 Sebenza 25's with the older box and one with the newer style. Just got one that came with the bigger box.

That is one of their older style boxes. I am not exactly sure when the boxes were switched, or if there was overlapping both boxes were used for a time.

It sounds exactly how my box on my older small Sebenza 21 came.

That's what I thought. I have seen both styles on knives made around the same birthday. Thanks.

Knivesshipfree? If so, you are good.
I will usually defer judgement on this type of thing because pictures tell a better story. While it hasn't been unusual to see a newer knife in an older box, I don't remember them coming quite that late..but of course, it's only known to CRK how long they have used the old style boxes.

Yes. I ordered from them. They are a great site. It just threw me off seeing a newer birthdate with the older box.

Maybe it was changed into the older box at the knivesshipfree rather than at Chris Reeve.

That would require them to have empty boxes..I'm sure they don't have those.
Derrick and crew are pretty good people..Don't think they would do that even if they did have old boxes. :)

Posting pics is pretty easy by the way.
Usually, a picture hosting site such as photobucket is easy. Upload your pic...copy the tag that looks like this picture[/IMG
And post that directly in the reply box.

I think they used the older style boxes again as they were transitioning to the current new box style with the new design and birthcards. My large inkosi came in the old style box around the same time frames.

Personally I prefer the older coffin style box... as they are more rugged than the newer box that crk is currently using.....

I have about 4 CRKs that I purchased in fall 2016 that had spring and summer birth card dates that came in the older style box. At the same time I received some in the newest box style.

My guess is that they had stock of the old boxes but ran out of the styrofoam versions before switching to the latest version and so decided to use the old stock first.
