Hi everyone - - I'm looking at a few different dealer websites at Large Sebenza knives, both Classic & Regular. - - These websites seem to list different blade lengths for what appear to be the same knife (at least they look the same from photos). Some list blade length at 3 1/2" and some at 3 5/8" - - Unfortunately, in the city where I spend a lot of my time, the maximum blade length allowed is no more than 3 1/2" - - so that 1/8" could be a problem. I don't want to go with the small Sebenza. - - So can you please clear this up for me ? Are there 3 1/2" Large Sebenza knives out there ? - - (And a totally different question while I'm posting this - are the micarta grips offered on both the classic & regular large knives?) Thanks, - -

The Micarta Inays are only offered on the Classic Sebenzas.

On the length- measuring blade lengths are often a bit (1/8" inch) different based on the way that the blade is measured.

For example, from the tip to the frame can result in a smaller measurement than if the blade is measured to the bottom most part of the blade where is meets the bottom of the frame.

You are smart to be careful, but acting responsibly with a knife and knowing how to answer "the" question when confronted by a LEO can make all the difference.

Hope this helps,

Neil

Thanks for your response guys - - I'm curious WhitleyStu - (if you don't mind) did you measure from that part of the blade that has an actual edge on it ? I measured an Emerson folder that I have and the actual cutting edge to the tip is 3.6" while the published blade length is 3.75". It would seem that measuring the actual cutting edge would be reasonable - - - though the whole concept of limiting blade lengths is totally unreasonable and silly. < sigh > I don't carry this particular knife in Seattle.

I re-measured 2 knives just now.

Large Classic.
The cutting edge is 3 1/2”- measured straight from the tip to the end of the edge.
From the tip to the frame- straight across is 3 5/8”.

Large Regular.
The cutting edge is 3 7/16" - measured straight from the tip to the end of the edge.
From the tip to the frame- straight across is 3 1/2”.

Take care all, Neil

Thanks Neil to your replies here and to my direct email. - - Youve cleared this up for me.
As I said, this whole matter is quite silly, - but such seems to be the way of the world today.
I had an actual experience a few years ago where I was pulled over by several policemen. It seems that some criminal skumbag had stolen a car and switched license plates with my car without my noticing it. (Who the heck double checks their plates each day?) They had me step out of the car . . . and do all the things you see on "Cops" and other police reality t.v. programs - an interesting experience. This included showing them the pocket knife I had with me - - it was just a tiny Victorinox Classic Swiss Army knife - - the kind with the small scissors & minute blade. All was promptly sorted out and fine in the end, and we chatted a bit afterwards. (Of course, I was friendly & respectful and I also had on business attire - jacket & tie. All of this helped I believe.) - - But, I have done a little thinking about what kind of knife to carry and the impression it gives in such situations.
Thank you again, - -
