Hi guys and girls,
I'm the very proud owner of a Large Sebenza and it's the best folder I've ever owned and also the most expensive.
I just aquired a second hand Buck Vanguard the one with the Brass fittings and rubber (kraton?) grip.
I just finished sharpening the Vanguard and it took quiet some time on my Lansky Diamond hones but it is now scarry sharp.
Sitting in front of the TV with both the Large Sebenza and the Vanguard I suddenly noticed that the Vanguard blade almost is a perfect lookalike of the Sebenza's shape wise!,OK the blade is thicker and a little longer where it goes over into the "tang" but the cutting edge of my Vanguard is a perfect match with my Sebenza. The hollow grind doesn't go up as far as the Sebenza but almost as far.
NOW I realized why I like both knives so much
the blade form is just perfect for what I normally use a knife for, scouting, skinning, hunting (used to do that) and general cutting chores in normal life.

I even think that Buck produces a higher priced Vanguard with a.... yes BG42 blade

.
Any info would be welcome as I will put that on my Year 2000 list as a knife that I will certainly try to buy. I just wish that Buck would put some lighter pommel and hilt on the Vanguard, perhaps Titanium and use some beautifull wood for the grip, this would make a perfect poor man's

fixed blade Sebenza, as long as Chris doesn't make one for us.
Cheers, Bagheera

I know what you mean, a couple of days ago I sharpened a friends knife, the Buck Vanguard, and it took a nice edge, comfortable grip and nice blade shape, didn't think to compare it to the Sebenza though!

I don't know if the BG42 model is still available though.

They also make a pretty one with wood handle but that wouldn't be as useful in hunting as the handle would get slippery too much.

Plug for Buck, one of the oldest and consistent lines I've had the pleasure to deal with! I think just about everyone knows of or even has had a Buck 110 folder at one time or another, that speaks well of them I'd say!
