large sebeza too big for EDC?

I have a small sebenza, and I love it, but the large fits my hand so much better. I feel clumsy sometimes trying to open the small one bc I never have a sure girp on it. Big hands I guess...
So, I'm looking to trade my small for a large. The only hesitation that I have is that it's too big for an edc, especially pocket carry (I hate wearing belt pouches).
Any imput on my dilemma would be much appreciated.

I have relatively small hands and I carry a Large Sebenza and 1 of the other knives for EDC every day, Sebbie being the one I always have on me. My answer is, it is definately not too big for EDC. And if you have big hands it'll definately fit you better.

The big Sebenza really isn't *that* big of a knife. That size is about the upper limits if anything that I would ever want to carry, but plenty of people carry around knives that are much bigger with no problem.

As long as the additional blade length won't cause you any legal hassles I'd say go for it.

guess you're right about people carrying things much larger. and it really isn't that big, same size as my Endura, so no big deal, right?
thanks guys.

another question: is there a significant diff between the S30V and the BG42, or can one not tell?

I like both these steels. I don't think that S30V is the clear winner over BG42.

As far as size goes, I find the large Sebenza fits my hand better than the small. I do not have overly large hands. The large Sebenza is, in my opinion, a medium sized knife. It's really not that large at all.

The large Sebenza is also fairly light and very flat for a "big" knife. It carries better clipped to a pants' pocket than most other folders of equal length blade.

The only S30V I've got are two neck knives, which don't get hard use, so I can't compare. But BG-42 is tough and corrosion-resistant. I used the lg Sebenza as a kitchen knife and in the woods. Hardly a mark besides scuffing on the scales, and only had to touch up the edge.

I switched to daily carry of the small when I got one, but a large comes out pretty frequently, too. Especially the large tanto, at night :D

The BG42 in my Large Sebenza and the S30V in my Benchmade 921 have held their edges equally well. I wouldn't really sweat the difference.

I carry a large Sebenza in my right rear pocket every day. It rides very nicely in the back pocket and I hardly ever notice it.

A large Sebbie should be fine for EDC. Just don't leap on top of your desk or car to draw it. For some reason, even a child-sized slipjoint is too large when that's done. BG42 and S30V are both top notch stainless steels. I'm happy with S30V and can't imagine being unhappy with BG42.

If you don't have any legal problems carrying a knife with a 3 1/2" blade, and if it's not against the rules in your work place, school or whatever, then the large Sebenza would be a great EDC. With regard to the type of steel, I personally prefer the S30V, which I find to be a tad easier to sharpen while still holding a great edge. The BG42 versions are great, too, though. You really can't go wrong with either.

The large sebbie is not really a large knife.

IMO the clip carries it flat and very comfortable in the front pocket. I wear the 5.11 pants from Royal Robbins most of the time. The sebbie clips to the front utility pocket and I seldom notice it. However, OTOH, a Strider AR carries the same way, and I don’t notice it either.

If the blade length is legal for your jurisdiction, no - not too big at all. Beyond the legalities, a lot is up to individual judgement and you can see that in our responses.

The large Sebbie is flat and rather smooth, so it carries quite well in front or back pockets.

As far as size considerations, I find the large (actually a "medium" as some have already mentioned) ideal for EDC assuming it is legal in your area. I usually switch to my decorated small when attending genteel functions (e.g., weddings, kids birthday parties, etc.).

My preferences: Large plain classic and small decorated regular.

wow, thanks for the numerous responses! i traded in my small for a large, so i'll be trying it out as my EDC. i'm excited to see if the extra size proves useful. but i'm worried its going to scare the crap out of the girls i hang with:rolleyes:

I had a large classic sebenza a while ago, and it was too big for me to carry comfortably. I use to carry large knives alot, but now I go smaller and smaller every day. I have found the small wood inlay to be just about the perfect size for everyday carry, but I have small hands.

If they're scared by a Sebenza, it wouldn't work out anyway. See if you can assimilate them by being that really nice guy with the big knife. Good luck with the big one, one day I too hope to enter the ranks of the 'enlightened'.

hehe, I"ve never heard of "us sebenza owners" being referred to as the "ranks of the enlightened". that's funny:D
and what's even funnier is the 'nice guy with the big knife', i should make that my new sn or email!

Piece of cake......
Next time your female compadres are around, look carefully....
chances are one of them will have a loose thread hanging somewhere, and you being the knight in armor...... bring the Sebenza to the rescue.......

I carry a large regular Sebenza in S30V in my RF pocket most days of the week, along with other knives...I consider it my main EDC. As some others have mentioned, it really isn't that *big* of a knife, as clip-folders go. I own and carry knives of all sizes, and as for one-handers prefer blades from 3" to 4" range, and the Sebbie's approx. 3.5" blade is about an ideal size for me. Large enough to handle anything I may need it for, yet small enough that it's easy to control. I also have smallish hands yet like the larger sized Sebbie somewhat better.

Size-wise, when clipped I barely notice it in the RF pocket, even when sitting. I have also carried larger knives in RF pocket (Benchmades 710, 805, 800; and Spyderco Military, Police, etc.) that haven't bothered me either, yet the Sebbie carries even more comfortably. However, experiences differ so it may be best to first handle one then see how it feels clipped before you decide. And as for the S30V, I'm no expert but have found it takes/holds a great edge yet resharpens easily enough on a Spyderco Sharpmaker.
