Hey guys, take a look at TRC Knives(Latvia, europe), like the Apocalypse using Elmax and micarta scales. Looks pretty awsome. Also the Eickhorn(Solingen, Germany) G.E.K and maybe the Lionsteel M7 using Sleipner(brittle?), a heavy slasher. What do you think ?

OP, there are a lot of threads on here on this very subject. If you are ready to pull the trigger you might find searching them out faster than waiting for replies here. You’ll see the same recommendations again and again: the usual suspects with blades of high carbon steel.

What kind of survival knife you might need is largely determined by where you think you might need it. You didn't state that.

For example, I am most likely to need one in a forest wilderness so I consider a survival knife to be one that can do everything from chopping wood to more delicate tasks such as game and food prep. What best meets my needs in that environment is a high quality knife with around a 10" blade, .25" spine, and finger choil.

whenever I see "large survival knife" in the same sentence, there is only one, humble word that comes to mind:

machete

but if you have a hole burning in your pocket, I'd vote the M7 if you want a good quality/cost ratio. Sleipner I hear is basically toughened up D2, like CPM-D2 or PSF27, which would make a great steel for this kind of tool, as Revolverrodger stated.

compare: https://knifesteelnerds.com/2018/11/05/all-about-d2-steel-knives/ and search "site:bladeforums.com sleipner" e.g. https://bladeforums.com/threads/sleipner-corrosion-resistance.1415700/

I'm a fan of large survival knives and still use mine for larger machete type tasks
like smaller limbs that are inevitably everywhere after a hurricane or large storm.
For extended use, and especially a survival situation, a machete would be much easier to swing for extended periods.
A hatchet or axe is usually easier on your arms when trying to obtain fire wood as well.
A large survival knife fills both rolls more or less and leaning more towards less.
I think I'd carry either an axe or a machete depending on the environment. Like a machete makes more sense in the jungle and an axe makes
more sense in the woods. Seems like you could learn to use either one for most environments.
To me, axes and machetes can "punch above their weight". They have a very good power to weight ratio...whereas you pay for every ounce of a large survival knife and they can wear your arms out sooner than you might expect.

Do you not want a carbon steel blade?

I'd suggest a Terava Skrama 200mm/240mm or Jaakaripuukko 140mm. Check out the youtube vids if you are unfamiliar with them. A lot of knife for the $.

Plus the company is based in Europe (you seem to be too) and might make shipping easier and cheaper.

I beat ya too it Henry.

Looks like you've got a couple of good knives to choose from, though I'm not sure about those hollowed out scales on the Eickhorn G.E.K.

BTW, TRC Knives are Lithuanian, not Latvian.

Terava Jaakaripuukko 140.

Mine is a Cold Steel SRK in Carbon V (0170) steel The 6 inch carbon steel blade is all you will ever need!

Although probably not considered large, I have the TRC Mille Cuori. It is a fantastic knife, albeit pricey. I much prefer Vanadis 4E for a hard-use blade than Elmax.

The best large survival knife I have found is the Skrama 240mm in carbon steel. Pack size, weight, and ability. Controllable too. Pair it up with a Silky saw and not much you can't do with the pair.
The best survival knife is the one in your pocket, a Skrama doesn't fit nor does a machete.

The next "best" do it all type is the 5" to 7" Combat/Sheath knife. Can do everything badly, but at least a belt easy carry. Too many to suggest here.
