So I had this nice piece of CPM 154 hanging about and I have been trying my hand a flat grinding. This is 12 OAL 7" blade it finished at .160, just over 5/32. I don't know why but I have been hand rubbing all of my flat grinds, even when there isn't any hamon to show off. Comments welcome!

Thanks for looking!
Paul

That looks really nice Paul, hand rubbed finishes always look classy!

Thanks!
A 4" handle would suit me more. The Japanese had good reasons for a shorter handle; palm-loaded grip and easier to conceal.

I agree that it would be easier to conceal, but I find for my hands that if it were that short it would be in meat of the hand. Maybe they just have smaller hands. My father is constantly pointing out that my handles are to small for his ham hands. Speaking of that tang, I forgot to mention I tapered it. Sooo light and fast this one.

That smaller handle was primarily designed for the palm-loaded grip. It's a fantastic grip. I am surprised how many knuts don't know this.
Tapered tang? You dawg! ;)
