I'm contemplating buying a large, 5" closed, Texas Toothpick knife.

Between the new Case large Texas Toothpick, and the Queen D2 Toothpick, which would you choose?

Any experiences with either knife?

I have lots of experience with that size of TT.
The Case Classics are great. Everyone has thier favorite scale material. Mine was the Buffalo Horn.
In Schatt & Morgan, I managed to snag a beautiful 5" Green Bone with a worm groove in it. Absolutely sublime! I also had the Medium S&M Buffalo Horn in D2, a very nice knife though smaller than your spec.
Basically, I wouldn't bother with anything else as these are the best. The more recent TT are - eh! I bought all mine off E-Bay.
Cheers and enjoy ! TT are the sweetest shape!

I just received a Queen Aber Carved Stag Bone 5" toothpick in the mail yesterday from Bill Horn at Cumberland Knife Works.

Good out of the box quality on the knife. Seemed fairly sharp for straight out of the box. It's my first shot at sharpening a D2 blade, so I am looking forward to that.

I have recently aquired a Case Large Bonestag Texas Toothpick in stainless and a Queen Amber Bonestag TT in D2. A few observations:
1) The Case has a longer blade by a quarter of an inch, which puts it on the high side of legal here in Kansas, where we have a 4" limit.
2) The Case came sharper out of the box than the Queen. Of course, it also had the famous Case wire edge, so I had to sharpen it anyway, but it was much easier to do than the Queen, more of a clean up the burr and polish the edge than the total reprofile the Queen needed.
3) The Case has a more flexible blade than the Queen, if you like that sort of thing (which I do :D )
4) The fit and finish is a little better on the Queen than the Case.
5) The D2 of the Queen holds an edge better than the Case Tru-Sharp stainless (which I understand is 420HC) but is more prone to rust.

Overall, both are well-made knives, and either should serve you well. I really love the pattern :D

I ended up going with the Queen amber stag toothpick.

Great quality on it.

Looking at the pattern, if one turned it over, one would have a large peanut pattern.

Do large peanuts even exist?

I'm very keen on the new 2007 Case large Texas toothpick. Being seriously thinking about it for last two months or so.

Anyone have any experience on it? Looks absolutely stunning!

Mine sharpened up easily and well. I haven't actually used it enough to test the edgeholding, but I expect it will be typical for Case Tru-Sharp stainless - adequate but not outstanding. Fit and finish were very good, but not great. Action is smooth, with excellent snap open and shut. Overall, I'd say it was worth the price. I wish the blade was a little shorter, as it is a quarter of an inch over the legal limit where I live, so I don't carry it much.

If there are any of these left, I would strongly urge you to order one NOW. They were made for AG by Camillus and there will be no more made. With a 4" blade, this is far and away the largest Texas Toothpick that I have seen.

That there's a great recommendation!

The TT is my favorite pattern and I have about fifty of them, plus I've sold and traded many others.

I have 2 of the A.G. Russell toothpicks. they are fine knives. The fit and finish are super. It's a steal for the price A.G.'s selling them for.

The Schatt & Morgan toothpicks are IMO the best production ones out there now. A really good one, from a few years back, was the File and Wire Series with Golden Worm Groove handle scales and ATS-34 blade. The Green Bone someone mentioned is also a great looking knife.

When you're next in the market to buy a Large Texas Toothpick, I'd go with the A.G. Russell or a Schatt & Morgan. I haven't looked recently, but Bill Horn over at Cumberland Knife Works and also Sooner State Knives had some of the Schatt five-inchers (not the F&W, though) at good prices. In the 80 dollar range or so. The fit and finish is significantly better than the Queen (as you may know both S&M and Queen are part of Ontario Knives). The Walk and Talk on the Schatt is better than on the Case. IMO.

The Queen sure is a nice knife for the money, and though the edge out of the box can be a bit less than hair-poppin' sharp, their D2 is fine steel and if you work on it a bit you can get that nice "toothy" D2 edge that lasts a loooong time.

That's good advice. I bought a Ag Russell Grandad's Tt on rifon2's advice. It is sweeeet. I sleep with it at night. The 154cm blade has a lot of potential. I have been re working the edge down to 11 degrees per side. It's been a long task. I can't imagine have ing to do it for a D2 tt.
