Does anyone know where to find large Japanese waterstones. I am looking for ones 12" or better in length and the low to medium grits (up to 1200).

Lee valley Tools in ottawa has the best selection of waterstones I have seen. I don't know if they have ones quite as long as you want though. There web address is www.leevalley.ca

Lee Valley has a wide grit range of waterstones as well as many other abrasives. However the waterstones are only 8" or less in length.

I have no personal knowlege about waterstones in general or Norton ones in particular.

That being said I have seen that Norton now makes waterstones and they are supposedly more durable than the usual ones. They may have various sizes, so you should check, both for size and quality reasons.

Someone else also commented on these and was going to check them out. You might search for that thread in the archive and see if the knifeknut (or is that sharpeningknut?

) posted anything. If not, you might want to email the individual.

Keep us informed! I just ordered a hone from http://www.handamerican.com/ so that will keep me occupied for a while.

Cliff , I get every woodworking tool catalog
known to man and have never seen a waterstone that long offered for sale . If LeeVally tools or the "Japan Woodworker" don't have them , I would be suprised if they existed .
