So, what would you consider to be your ideal configuration for a Kukhuri in the 22" class if you were going to have just one big one to go along with a pretty well rounded collection? Who would you ask to make it? Intended use, you ask? Well, you know; all the stuff you would use a 22" Kukh for...

Well Pete, since you asked... ;)

Personally, I'm of the opinion, that for chopping work, anything larger than the 22.5" (old school) Ganga Ram Special, would be fruitless. Mine, at 54oz (with non chiruwa-tang) would be unwieldable if it were heavier IMHO, and honestly, I can't imagine a job that would require anything choppier.

So I think that only leaves a large Sirupate, Kumar Kobra, or maybe a huge Chitlangi, obviously, the application of these longer blade is martial. Personally, I favor the Kobras, since they were designed for that size. Of course, nobody better to make a Kumar Kobra, than Kumar himself. Alas, he's no longer making khuk for HI, so I dunno of the current working Kamis.. Honestly, I'm not sure who the current working Kami's are, other than Rajkumar, Bhakta, and Tirtha. Of those, I'd guess Tirtha is most suitable to make a long but agile khuk, but that's just an assumption.

What do the rest of you guys think?

Bonecutter would be cool, but heavy. I seem to recall the 22" Gelbu Special is supposed to be a great size. I'd like one of those. Take care.

Indeed. I will unleash my shark-ness if he still makes one. Or Sanur for his UBE.

Hi Pete,

It's a very general question that you are asking.
What would you like to do with it? chopping seasoned wood? trail cleaning?

Intuitively 22" would be a chopper and i would go for a Sgt. Khadka Bonecutter at 20".

I'm 5' 10", 75kg and i feel anything more than 22" will have to be lively. In fact i even have a rule of thumb:
3/8" spine thickness, weight less than 26-28Oz and 19-20" in length is my ideal khuk.

Having owned a 25" Tear-drop Sirupate i could only ponder it as a fantastic addition to mine. I used to sniff down 1/2" thick spine and realize it's all about force but compromised the momentum of the original Khukuri.Hence i went back to the original and revised it on my own case.

So far what i've getting in the mail are 21" Bhanduk, 20" Samsher and 19" Super CAK.

Like many would said, a Chitlangi/Siru/Kobra would be very fun to wield at 22". It hit me one day to think " What if you could only have one?"....

My pick is Super Cak or YCS.

Proceed with extreme care.

I feel that this depends on your build, physical shape and personal preferences. The Gelbu Special, Chitlangi or Sirupati styles are good all-around Khukris at that size. But if you'd like a Dedicated Chopper, an Ang Khola, Ganga Ram Special or Bone cutter are my picks.

maniacal pete, an interesting question, although one asked many times before. Martial blades tend to be light, per inch of length, than heavier knives per inch. You have to consider the task to undertake. Sirupate and chitange style blades suit martial needs very well. Do want to chop firewood, or chop al Quaeda? Much depends on your^e youth and strengh. Good luck on your quest, and purchase as many blades as you need till you find the "one". As a matter of note, my favourite blade is a 22" Sirupate.

The law of diminishing returns take effect the larger and heavier a khuk gets. It can be worth it though if one good strike finishes the job.

I think I probably have more of a martial focus than most here. I've never met a Sirupati I've liked.
I prefer heavier-for-length blades. I believe good choppers ARE good fighters. My 16.5" WWII is my favorite (so-called) fighting knife.

Despite my preference for heavier weapons in general, once you get past 19" or so, a very heavy-bladed kuk gets unwieldy. The heaviest longer kuk I'd want is a Chitlangi.
