I am covered in the <3" department - P3 and Native 5; as well as the <3.5" size - PM2 and Manix 2.

Time has come to get me a larger folding knife. The requirements are ~5oz. or less; at least 3.5" cutting edge; primary use, anything outdoors.

Considering the following,
- Military
- Endura 4 - technically the cutting edge is just short of 3.5"
- Police 4 - not out yet, but had Police 3 for a month almost 10 years ago, loaner for backpacking trip.

Your feedback helped my choose between couple of knives earlier. So, I figured I will try it again.

Hmm... looking at what I have, I may need two knives in this size. Well, that's not good...

A lot of us are eagerly anticipating the release of the Police 4. It's on my "must buy" list for 2017.

The Endura and Military are both outstanding knives. The main differences are materials, lock type, carry configuration and cost. Judging by the knives you already own, it seems safe to assume that you don't mind spending the money needed to get premium blade steel and G-10 handle scales, so I say get the Military. I don't think you'll regret it.

Yeah, I am fascinated by the size of the Police. Haven't really looked at the Pacific Salt.

Somehow I knew I wasn't getting out of this without a Military. So, out of the new version (open back, new stop pin, larger screws and lanyard), and out of what can be had new, 240P (from KW) or 110V (from anywhere)? Not sure I can tell the difference. I like to keep my knives sharp, use them quite a bit, I do get them wet now and then. May come down to the color, probably green. Unless someone wants to talk me into the 110V?

The 204P is wonderful. The Military is my favorite Spyderco and imho their best outdoor folder. Works well with gloves, light, great handle, very useful blade shape and carries very well. If you want something that can't rust and smiles at most abuse a SE Pacific Salt is great (I'd grab both)

You should pick up and endura ffg. Thinner and lighter than the military while almost as long. And pretty darn cheap. Everyone should have one. Might as well get all three and see which one you like better. You could always sell of the other two pretty easy but you will likely keep them all.:)

outdoors?

the best in the <3.5" and >3.5" categories, respèctively

I'd spring for the 204p then! :D:):D:)

I guess so. There are worst things than 204P!

Somewhat related. How does it work with sprint runs and exclusives? How/when are these announced? How often are they released?

From Spyderco.com. They are usually announced the same as all other Spyderco products.
Sprint Run
A limited, one-time-only production of a specific knife design or variant. Production quantities of sprint runs are limited to less than 1500 pieces.

Q: What are Exclusive Run Spyderco products?
A: The hottest, most in-demand Spyderco models made at the special request of a wholesale customer in a configuration different than what has been previously produced. Exclusives are produced for one customer or in conjunction with one customer and the Spyderco Factory Outlet Store (at the customer's request).

Like Spyderco Sprint Runs, this can include changes in the handle color, materials, blade steel, coatings, etc. Production quantities are generally based on minimum material requirements, etc. and the customer reserves the right to re-order this item while it is under the exclusive contract. In most circumstances, Spyderco reserves the right to reproduce the item after contractual obligations have been fulfilled.

Spyderco does not have inventory information for these products. Any future delivery dates are estimated and subject to change. This information is not all inclusive of Exclusive items produced by Spyderco. Please note, in some cases, items have been produced for a Distributor and may be available from multiple retail locations.

Looking at the designs you like the military seems like the clearest choice. The full flat grind across such a big blade means it narrows down to a nice thin tip which some people find is delicate while others find perfect.

Military ordered. Already got my 'shipped' confirmation. Just have to make sure I intercept it before mrs sees it.

I realize the tip is pretty thin. I put my PM2 through a bit of abuse. As long as you're smart about it, should be ok.

These guys did a number on the Military. Broke eventually, but took some beating,
