Larger folders wanted

At the gun/knife show today I got to see many Spydercos and noted how small many of them really are. I would really be interested in a larger Harpy. I don't feel a need for blades under 3 inches with correspondingly small, thin handles.

On a side note, after leaving the show I found my car's rear quarter-panel window shattered, but nothing stolen, luckily. It was possibly due to the 50-60mph wind gusts and 13 years of fatigue. I cut a piece of clear plastic carpet runner to size with my 50/50 Endura and likewise sliced up the duct tape. This time a plain edge would have been better; the serrations made the cold plastic crack.

I would love to see a larger version of the Harpy, in plain edge, as more of a utility/ work knife than the Matriach/Civillian. Maype based on a ss Endura II handle, with about 3 3/4" of blade.

I agree, larger folders are in order. It seems like the majority of the new folders Spyderco is coming out with are tiny. I really like the Harpy but, my hands are kind of large and it just dosn't fit well. A 4 inch harpy with G-10 would be awesome. It would probably be more effective as a weapon than even the Civillian.

I personally don't like to carry anything smaller than a Delica, but prefer something in the 3.5 - 4.5 range. Perhaps smaller knives are the new trend, I don't know. I'll probably be getting one of those Camillus Madd Maxx knives with the 5.5 inch blade just to get something different and bigger. I really hope Spyderco starts putting out larger folders.

I agree,

I think the new little knives have great and very efficient designs,
but I think some new big-knife designs are greatly needed. I also think that applying some new concepts, being pioneered by the little ones, to existing large designs (military) would be awsome. One thing in particular that intrest me is the notion of a large (4" serrated blade)lil' temperance with the same features except a different steel. Furthermore, the addition of some practical colors (OD)to the larger knives would also be really neat.

A drop point or spear point Chinook would be great. In fact it would be perfect :)

That said, I'd like a mini Lum, a mini Chinook etc

Yes a spear point Chinook might be very interesting.... Like a giant swiss army knife main blade! That would be one hell of a stout knife.

Dude ~ There has been rallying cry for a larger harpy! That sure is a cute knife to handle! :D

For an XL harpy:
Take the handle of the alum. Civilian
Supersize the harpy blade
Mix, and voila!

Seems like we need a new knife.

Sal, can we have a bigger Harpy pretty please???

How about a 3 7/8 inch vg-10 blade (to make it legal more places), maybe a partially serrated option, dual positon clip, traction grooves on the back of the opening hole hump and the s.s. handle from the Endura II with a Boye lockbar.

Years ago I got to handle the original Al Mar SERE Attack. Man, what an impression that thing made on me! No way would I pay whatever those things are going for now...

A spear point blade in the Chinook, however...

I could have virtually the same huge hunkchunk of indestructable steel to slip into a camo belt pouch and lug around.:) With the one hand opening hole to boot. If it's a tip-up clip, I might leave it on, though.

Yeah, I know about the Bowie style clip point enabling "back cut," but I'm a drop point/spear point kinda guy.

Due to the "modern trend in civilian disarmament," I know that smaller, "friendlier" blades are the norm, but I'd like to see one or two larger ones as well. The G10 Police model is currently my largest Spydie, with my three old Enduras second largest.

Take a look at the Police model. Not exactly small, but carries very well because it's so slender. > 4" blade.
