Larger folders with two blades anyone?

It's about time for hunting season again. I usually carry a fixed blade for the blood and guts work, easier to clean the knife up etc. I do carry a large hunter folder type knife with two blades. One blade about the size of a buck 110 and the other more like a small fillet knife. I never hear anyone talk about them and was wondering if anyone likes the idea of having two large blades in one knife. I think they are handy. Sorry no pics. I have a case, and one made by American Knife Company. I also have a Kbar made this way. Loosearrow

They're classics. :) The Case 65, Camillus 29, they just work. I've a thoroughly abused one I'm working on taking down to the skinner blade only- a previous owner snapped the end off the clip and reground it with what appears to be a concrete block, then repaired the scales with putty.

I have an old Case two blade Hunter I just posted about in another thread, that Case re-bladed for me, after I ruined it on a belt sander. Awesome knife; the only reason I use the Buck 110 more is the fact that with the main blade of the Case open, the drop-point blade sits high enough to make the handle uncomfortable in heavy use. I don't necessarily need the lock on the 110, but it's nice to have. If need be, I could get along with the Case just fine.

If you search "two blade Hunter" on Google or ebay, you should get a bunch of hits.

Also - here's a shameless plug for collectorknives.net - look at Great Eastern Cutlery; they have some two-blade models as well. Mike's a good guy to deal with, too.

Case still makes a two-blade hunting knife.

Schrade made many, including the 25OT Old Timer.

Here is an older Camillus (was my father's):

How much to replace the blades? Carbon or stainless?

How much to replace the blades? Carbon or stainless?

Overall cost was about $27., and the old blades were replaced with Tru-Sharp stainless.

some details from my journal (with edits) that might be important:
At the time Case was not making these profiles in their CV steel; according to the lady on the phone, they probably won't offer this pattern (two-blade Hunter) in CV again. The lady made a note to ask the repair shop guys to look around for any old CV blades that might fit, I told her Tru-Sharp was fine for my needs. That's what I got.

Unless things have changed with Case's steel suppliers, they do not bring in carbon steel in the thickness needed for the main blade on the two-blade Hunter pattern. Note: the secondary blade on mine is about the same thickness as the main clip blade on my large Case CV Stockman, so if you want a secondary drop-point blade in CV, they possibly may have an old one around somewhere. I use the secondary blade on mine as a fillet blade for fish, so stainless is fine for my uses.

That being said, the new stainless blades on my knife take and hold a great edge, but not quite as well as the old CV blades.

A few knives of that type that I really like are the

Case in 154CM (not sure if it's still available but a great knife)
Queen - available in Birds Eye Maple or Amber Jigged Bone, D2 blades
Cold Steel (that one's no longer available, of course)
Boker - a terrific carbon steel knife that you can pick up at a very reasonable price.
Made in Solingen Germany.
