Is my old memory failing me or do I not remember at some point seeing a larger than usual Sharpfinger style knife with a closer to 5 inch blade?....

Anyone know what I'm talking about? maybe could point me in the right direction?.....

I've seen the large model which has an extra half inch of blade, but memory serves to tell me that back late 80s or early 90s somewhere I saw a version with a 5 to 5.5 inch blade....and I can't seem to find it now, nor even any mention of it.

Thanks guys!

Could it have been a western model 39 ? It's got a 5" upswept sharpfinger style blade.

Lots of companies made upswept skinners of various sizes.
If you are specifically interested in Schrade, look up Deerslayer, I think.

no, I just looked it up, the one I'm remembering looked exactly like a sharpfinger but just upsized....heck it may have been a custom, I remember when I looked at it it was a good HC steel and sharp as a laser due to its relatively thin stock and FFG. also wanting to say it had stag handles.... was on a table at a gun show mixed in with a ton of other production blades so it would be odd to have a custom thrown in the mix...but I guess its possible...

Deerslayer is closer, but the belly to length ratio is off...

The Schrade Collectors will know. This is not as busy a forum as General, so it may take a bit to get an answer. But you should, for certain sure, find the answer here.

Ryan Weeks makes a rather good looking upscale version of the Sharpfinger BTW.

Maybe the OP saw a custom ...

that deerslayer MIGHT have been it, but to be honest, I'm wanting to remember just a touch more belly width on it... like it needs another 3/8ths to 1/2 inch of blade width back at the tang junction.... but its possible I'm just remembering wrong after 30+ years

well on the off chance that it was the deerslayer, and it's just not going to look right till its in hand, I tracked down a " Vintage Schrade-Walden N.Y. U.S.A. Old Timer 15 OT Deerslayer Knife w/ Sheath " for a grand total of 30 bucks...

It has some patina on the leather sheath and carbon steel blade, but otherwise looks unused... I'll assess the extent of the patina when it arrives and decide then if I'll clean it up or just roll with it, but at least this way I know I'm getting a quality HC blade and a US made product....

Hopefully =o)

ETA: just doing some more research on it, it looks like the one I bought has the old laced sheath which if my research is correct, marks it as a pre 1974 variant... it's double side stamped so based on what I've been able to find, I'm guessing 68?..... not that it matters but I thought it was kinda neat.

Here's a pic of the 152 Sharpfinger and the 150T together.

Search the forum for Ryan Weeks' knives - his Sharpfinger interpretation is outstanding.

BUT be warned: You are going to want a Ryan Weeks knife.
