Larger, Untapered Thumb Stud?

Now, please understand, i LOVE my CR knives and i think theyre about the best knife made, but... I was curious if anybody ever wished the blue thumb studs were a little easier to use/grab. Maybe a little larger and not tapered towards their point? Does CR make a replacement stud thats not tapered towards its point, or am i speaking utter blasphemy? :)

I have to admit, i have a few knives where the stud is a little easier to use. Dont hate me. :)

I like the stud on Sebenza as it is now. It grabs my thumb quite well. There are many studs that look similiar to the one on Sebby but makes one-hand-opening almost impossible. However, Sebenza's stud is not designed for really fast opening, it's utility knife and not tactical. And frankly speaking I can't imagine Sebby with thumb disc or big "tactical style" stud that you can find on Lightfoot knives for example.

BTW, I like Lightfoot's tacticals a lot :)

The Senenza stud is IMHO the grabbiest (hey new word :D ) stud I have handled without it hurting my thumb (Kershaw mini task actually drew blood )

What it really needs is a hole, round of course, (I am just going to get a bucket of water to put out the flames :D :D :D )

I like just a plain cylinder... BUT if ya have to get all fancy, imo, the Sebs knob is tip top in my book. It grabs yer thumb but dosent grab the edge of your pocket...

I should clarify. I do VERY much like the way the stud looks, and it works reasonably well, but, i do own folders with studs that seem to do a better job of opening the blade, with a little less effort. I guess i like a nice, untapered, hollow cylinder, with maybe a textured finish on the outside for better grip. I think a blue anodized, textured, hollow cylinder would look nice on my Sebenza and work a little better, but i realize im nitpicking, and i do LOVE the Sebenza, even with its current stud. :)

Appearance wise, the stud looks great! But I too, would like, or I should say my thumb would prefer something more like a Carson or Obenauf stud.

At first the thumb stud was one of the 'bugbears' that bothered me. The Large Sebi was a little stiff to open (new at time) and the thumb stud simply did not seem big enough to open with ease. Well After breaking 'Gwaith' in a little and adopting a more sweeping motion, I find this folder a JOY to open.

I look at the thumbstuds on my MOD CQD DD and in fact find the size of them (large) slows me down now as I need to reajust my action to open the knife.

The Sebi is a more natural opener than any system I have used bar my Spyderco's, which are the best in the business IMHO.

A Sebi with the SpyderHole (tm) would be my ultimate idea (with a 4" Damasteel blade... )

General - you also lust after a hole in a sebie, we will get strung up here if we are not careful :D

Nah! I think Sal and Chris are friends and get on very well. Not surprising when both companies seem to put customers at the very top of the hill!:)

No harm in wishing for some SpyderHole special edition Sebi's one day!:p

While I love my small Sebenza, I'm not particuarly fond of the thumb stud.

I find that it is a bit small (the tip actually - where my thumb contacts it) and a bit sharp.

The result is that it is slightly uncomfortable to operate at times. I carry the knife cliped into my front pants pocket and I've also had the grooves catch a loose string and pull the knife open slightly on a few occations resulting in a supprise when I put my hand in my pocket! :-)

I would like to see a thumb stud that is similar to the diameter of the Sebenza stud (maybe a tad larger), about the same height, but is a simple cylinder with cross hatching on the top.

While I'm on the topic of things I don't like I should mention the open back design* requires a lot more care in carrying the knife as coins tend to find their way in and nick the edge, even while carried "clipped" in. I've had to re-train myself about coins after a few close calls.

That's it. That's all I don't like about it - two things.

Just in case you are worried - I love this knife. It is among a small collection of items that are with me always, regardless of where I am going or what I am doing.

* I understand changing this would make the design more complicated and less elegant.
