hello all! the various edc "whats in your pockets" threads always fascinate me, for the most part they are solid/practical knives but it got me thinking "Whats the largest folder you pocket carried?" Ya know tried like crazy to carry knowing it was just too damn big, but pride or a sore wallet couldnt convince you otherwise:D
Mine to date have been:
1. '04 Schatt & Morgan Crimson Wildcat driller, 4.5" long closed
Determined to carry since i bought the damn thing and its not truly mine till i carry it/use it

2. camillus #26 2 bladed Jack, 5.25" Long closed
Was my first real pocket knife, was my grandpa's and i was gonna carry it regardless, i was only 14 didnt really know any better.:)

Anybody got any sheeple scattering traditional folders you tried carrying?

Are you happy now?..:D:thumbup:

At north of 4 1/8 inches in length closed and 15/16 inches wide this wonderful slippy pattern is just a bit outside of the normal comfortable pocket carry I like in my Levis,, next to my tool *** .. OOP's.. Can I say TOOL in here??.. Anyway y'all get the point... ;):):D

The longest I EDC is a 4.5" trapper.

The heaviest I EDC comes in at 5 oz. (Tomes double blade Scagel).

I don't even notice the length or weight most of the time.

I haven't tried EDC with my two blade folding hunter. At over 5" it's just a mite too big imho.

  • Laguiole de L'Artisan, blade is 12cm, which is about 4.75", in about a 5.25" handle.
  • Queen large Texas Toothpick, 5" closed
  • Cold Steel "El Hombre" (not very traditional), 5" closed, wicked scimitar looking blade, definitely not sheeple friendly
  • Good old Buck 110, about 4-7/8" closed
  • Queen Swing Guard, about 4.5" closed
  • Case Copperlock with Wharncliff, about 4.25" closed
All of these are in regular rotation, though some seem more use than others. The Buck 110 is exceptionally heavy, and not really good for pocket carry (for me). The Swing Guard, though long, is very flat. I have a belt pouch for the Copperlock but don't really need it. Don't carry the El Hombre much, bought it on a whim.

I tend to use my Vic Classic SD a lot at work, where the sheeple factor is more a concern.

Great Eastern No.23 just under 4" but weighs a lot,2 bladed.

Paul Chen Sheffield folder, 4.125" single blade button lock.

Generally though, I like lighter knives in the trouser but heavier are OK in coats.

Nice to see i'm not the only one:D
Size matters and sometimes its fun to sweat the sheeple a bit!
Anybody know who/what is the biggest traditional folder?
Thanks so far, i dont have a trapper yet, gonna have to pick one up! keep my eyes peeled...

Queen toothpick in cocobolo or bird's eye maple - both 5" closed.
Case Large Toothpick - the new Ducks Unlimited is real nice, with walnut scales. 5 1/2" closed.

Remington (Camillus made) Daddy Barlow in the front pocket of my jeans.

A full size Case trapper. Sometimes in main jeans pocket, other times in a skinny watch pocket.

I've also just stuck my blue plastic handled Mora sheath knife in my front jeans pocket with the sheath, sans belt carrier. Very light and rides surprisingly well.

Then again I've found in jeans a 4 3/4 Colt SAA or clone can be a pocket gun. ;)

Usual carry is something in the SAK Tinker, Case mini-trapper range.

Lately it's been a Case 4 1/4" 6.5 Stockman.

The Buck 110 was probably the biggest and heaviest EDC Folder that I've carried.

Traditional knives, folks. Let's try to keep it on topic with the original poster's intent. I'm sure many of us have other large knives that don't fit the parameters posed.

I EDC a large 4 1/4" stockman. It's really not that bad as I keep it aligned with my wallet.

I actually don't like anything over 3 1/2 to 4 inches. I used to carry a large soddy once in a while, but it was not comfortable as the smaller sodbuster.

These days I don't carry anything larger than my Wenger SI, and usually its more like a Victorinox cadet ii or a Buck cadet.

A medium stockman is the biggest I want to carry in my pocket. When it comes to SAK, 3 layer is my max - like a Climber. I don't mind a larger folder if it's of the "clip" variety, but in traditionals, really big knives bug me.

I carry a 4 1/8" trapper from time to time. Large slip joints don't bother me in my front jean pocket.

My vic or wenger Soldier/SI are pretty much the largest I carry, as far as traditionals. I have a new friction folder from Oupa but it's about the same size as my sak.

Best,
Brett

During the winter I often carry a queen folding hunter in my front pocket. The size helps out a bit when my hands are cold or wet, and if I am wearing gloves / mittens. It is a single bladed version. Some times I carry one of my two bladed folding hunters in my pocket also. They don't honestly bother me at all or seem too too bulky. Joe
