Obviously these are one of a kind examples, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the largest and smallest fixed blades and folders are that are or were in actual production. At up to 6 ft long my vote for the largest fixed blade goes to the Maguro Bocho.
Spyderco Bug/Grasshopper/Honeybee are three of the smallest production folders:
Ontario/Hossom Retribution is a big one, but the Cold Steel XL Espada is the largest mass-produced folding knife I know of.
Though I did see a link to a site with some really huge balisongs.
In terms of largest fixed blade, that would be the German "Bearing Swords" of the later Medevil period, some of which were over six feet in total length. The same for the Japanese Nodachi (or Odachi), a sword of similar size, although some two feet of that were the grip.
Of course, neither the processional swords of Europe, nor the blades of feudal Japan were produced on the scale we're used to.
I find I have trouble distinguishing between "knives" and "swords", in a "which is bigger" comparison. I'll shut up.
