He was just asking for photos for a new book on custom knives:confused:

The other book guy has been posting here:confused:

Possible spammer? Maybe someone reported his posts?

I banned him for spamming. He joined today, he had seven posts and all of them were the exact same post that was just copied and pasted throughout many different forums.

That is the MO of a Spammer.

It did smack of spam in the approach. I noted that all his posts were the same, too.

But.... I don't believe the project not worthwhile. In fact, it looks like a very professional book publisher considering to include knives as a future series.

I will bet we will hear more about this ambitious project soon. I'm for it.

The book sounded interesting but the photo requirements eliminated me. No Photoshop'd pics. :)

Lark Books has an ad in the Oct issue of Blade, about this book. This is very good for custom knives. I was working on getting them some photos before I saw the post here and was very surprised to see the post tagged as spam. They aren't selling, they're asking for photos.

Whether or not he is selling, he still Spammed the forums with his posts. He disrespected the rules of the forums and it's members.

If it would have been one post, with info and a link it may have been different. But 7 posts on his first day with 7 of the exact same post....smells like spam.

If he is able to write a book he should be able to follow the rules of Bladeforums, one of which is do not register just to post advertisements. While it wasn't an ad to sell his book, it was an advertisement to get contributors. He should have joined the forums, asked questions if he had them on what was appropriate or at least email a moderator to see where or if he could post his announcement. Instead, he posted in several different forums, some hidden in threads that had nothing to do with his project. As I have said, this is the MO of a Spammer, if it smells like Spam, it is usually Spam.

I have already work on some pics and plan to submit very soon, I think it would be very worthwhile.

Gentlebeings, when some dork comes here and starts spamming us with ads as fast as he can paste them in we kick him overboard as fast as we can. We don't care if he's advertising knives, books, nazism, christianity, racism, a charity, a political candidate, whatever -- trying to paste in spam faster than the moderators can clean it up is not the way to introduce yourself.

It's conceivable that something legitimate was misrepresented by somebody who'd never been on the net before. If that's what happened he could email us and we could discuss allowing him to post on Bladeforums.

Is the "Jensen" mentioned in the spam the same one featured prominently in TGB&U? If so it's even less likely to be legitimate....

Cougar, it's legit and a different Jensen. I had been in contact with them before the post here and didn't realize it was posted all over the forums. The poster evidently didn't know what he/she was doing.

It's all cool, I was just surprised and curious as to the banning.

I have had a flyer on my desk since Blade show about this book....looks to be a good deal!

What it looked like to me was that Larkmetals was looking for help and was just trying to reach as many people as possible. I didn't see it as spam, but it's not my call.

If anyone has the email and link could you please send it to me. Looked like an interesting project when I first glanced.

jeez! BFC is becoming analforum.com!

No. With all due respect (and in my case that is quite a bit) that is not the case. We have members here who support this site. I very much share the passion for spreading information and am sorry for what happened, but it was handled correctly.

Allowing that type of multiple posts regardless is not fair to them. The person in question could have made one subtle post requesting help (requesting help with the project or how to ask for it) and it would have been handled differently if at all.

Opening the door to the technique they used would not be a good thing at all.

Sometimes it is hard to see the forest from the trees and non of us want to suppress information we just want to keep the playing field level and are always willing to work with people who are passionate about knives and related things, but to allow those types of posts would create a blurry line that would be difficult to follow. The person in question is more than welcome to contact us and we will do everything possible to work with them.

Stephen F: I attached a link in post #5.

Anal? Look at the photo requirements they want. Slides are a preference. Right. That was about 10 years ago.......
