I was reading a bit in one of Larrin's articles last night about how little time (minutes) you have to let the blades rest at room temperature before getting them into the cold.
My dry ice may be delayed tomorrow morning, will the blades be ok if I pop them in the freezer in order to start the cooling cycle, then into dry ice in an hour or so? Does that count?
If be grateful for any thoughts on this, thanks!

I think these knives will not transform further. The descent needs to be continuous AFAIK but I'm here to learn too...

A continuous cool down after the quench brings the most transformation, any delay and you will not get as much transformation to fresh martensite. Putting it in the freezer will certainly help and one hour is not that long. Hours or days and your gains will be small.

If you quench from the higher end of the austenitizing temperature, the sooner you need to get it in the sub-zero quench. 1950’ might be a good temperature to quench from in this case.
