Larry Fuegen - my first ever custom folder

Ever since I've seen Larry Fuegen's The Ripper I have been on the look out for one of his forged scroll folders. Well that wasn't easy and a few weeks a go I decided to contact Larry and ask him if could point me in the right direction. And he could, he told me that he had seen one at Paragon Sports in NYC but he, of course, wasn't aware whether or not it was still for sale. I contacted them and the knife was still in their possession. So after some "horse trading" and the greatly appreciated help (in more then one way) from our own Jim Cooper I was able to buy this piece.

This is what Larry told me about the knife. This knife was made back in 1991. The blade is approx. 3.5 inches long, and the handle is approx. 5 inches long. The handle is carved deer antler, it has a fossil ivory tongue and opal eyes (one is almost shut with a slit of opal). It has fossil ivory teeth and one of the teeth has a gold filling. It has full filework on the steel spacer, inside and out, as well as the liners. The base is curly maple with atacomite mineral crystals. It has an interesting face, more human like. Its name is Ringmaster becaue he looks like an old fighter that had a bad eye and a weathered, wrinkled face.

I just received the photos from Coop yesterday and here they are:

I want to thank Larry and especially Coop for making this happen.

WOW Marcel! Great score! That's really a piece of art!

Kind regards,

Jos

PS. Don't forget to post this on weapons.be and messenforum.nl!

Wow, congratulations, not very many people have the honor of owning one of those.

Not as dramatic a piece as The Ripper, but I think I may like this one even better! Congrats on an excellent score!

I've never seen a Fuegen knife I didnt love. Congrats on a wonderful piece of functional art. Beautiful folder.

congrats Marcel. nice to see you join we that have one of these fine folders lol. I'm sure you will enjoy it for a long time like I have done with mine. I do not have the stand like you have but have one of LF's fine sheaths. you have added another great knife to your sublimely excellent collection.

Welcome Marcel to the world of Sharp Folding Art.

I wonder is this one of Larry's creations for the 2001 San Diego
Art Knife Invitational? It looks like the one I saw at that show.....

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Thanks guys for all the compliments...I think I could get addicted to this type of folder. And that coming from a man who until recently told everyone that he would never ever buy or own a custom folder:D;)

David, as per Larry's own information...this one was made in 1991.

Yes Marcel, I am sorry, I must have been looking 10 years
ahead into the future when I read 1991 in Larry's description... :D

All the best,

That's quite the spectacular entry into the custom folder field - congrats Marcel!

...Well, his tongue does. That little tongue swings back and forth. Creepy. ;)

These Goblin folders are an acquired taste, for sure. But once you start exploring them, they really pique interest.

Marcel, you have a MINT example of this work and I am pleased for you. I told him I needed to take a deep breath when I shot this, because these type images require some planning. No way could I capture all that's going on in one rectangle. You should see the buried treasure down in the well...

Congrats and thanks, Marcel!

Coop

Marcel,

That's a great looking knife and a nice story. The photos are outstanding. Congradulations.

I've had the pleasure of holding a Goblin at a knife show. A true work of art by one of the best!

Congrats Marcel.
