Ever since I've seen Larry Fuegen's The Ripper I have been on the look out for one of his forged scroll folders. Well that wasn't easy and a few weeks a go I decided to contact Larry and ask him if could point me in the right direction. And he could, he told me that he had seen one at Paragon Sports in NYC but he, of course, wasn't aware whether or not it was still for sale. I contacted them and the knife was still in their possession. So after some "horse trading" and the greatly appreciated help (in more then one way) from our own Jim Cooper I was able to buy this piece.
This is what Larry told me about the knife. This knife was made back in 1991. The blade is approx. 3.5 inches long, and the handle is approx. 5 inches long. The handle is carved deer antler, it has a fossil ivory tongue and opal eyes (one is almost shut with a slit of opal). It has fossil ivory teeth and one of the teeth has a gold filling. It has full filework on the steel spacer, inside and out, as well as the liners. The base is curly maple with atacomite mineral crystals. It has an interesting face, more human like. Its name is Ringmaster becaue he looks like an old fighter that had a bad eye and a weathered, wrinkled face.
I just received the photos from Coop yesterday and here they are:
I want to thank Larry and especially Coop for making this happen.
