Wednesday I got home from work awaiting me a massive surprise. My wife Yvonne handed me a box and on opening out came an amazing Larry Fuegen SW Bowie with sheath and display stand. This is the story Yvonne told me. A couple of years ago I told her I would love to own a Larry Fuegen Bowie one day. Yvonne searched the web for his name, found it and contacted Larry Fuegen and asked him if she could order a knife from him. Larry replied "of course but it will take a while". A month or so ago Larry contacted Yvonne and told her that her name was at the top of his list and together they discussed this knife. All the while this happened I was oblivious to the fact. Somehow Yvonne had gathered and collected information on my preferences about a Bowie that she shared with Larry.
Here are the particulars and pics (courtesy of Larry):
Blade - 9 inch handforged 1095 carbon steel, Handle- carved fossil (ancient) walrus ivory, Fittings - Carved rust blued steel guard and end cap with carved sterling silver bands and stainless steel spacers, Sheath - Custom tooled leather with ostrich leg overlay and sterling button, Display stand - Mesquite wood with handforged steel supports for the knife and sheath. Overall length - 13.88 inches.

Luckily the shipping went okay although with a little detour and delay at Customs (as Yvonne informed me). The only thing that bothers me is that Larry put the Certificate in Yvonne's name :D;)

At the moment I'm hinting a few names to Yvonne like Tim Hancock, Ron Newton and Harvey Dean ;):D

That really is an amazing piece of work and an equally amazing wife!! Congrats on both counts!:D

Does she have a sister? Just kidding. :D What a great surprise! Congratulations!

Great event in family relationships, Marcel!

Don't you think that it is time to have the amazing collection of yours
on display for everyone to enjoy? ............ :)

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Wow! You have an awesome wife/knife combination there. Very nice!

Both your wife and the knife!

I am impressed by your wife's covert work. You better keep her on your good side. That kind of talent would be dangerous in an enemy.

I love all of the details in the knife: the textured portions in the guard and the end cap, the carving in the ivory and silver; the mix of materials, colors, and textures, the sheath. . . . Awesome.

Congratulations. I would imagine that you would be able to find something new to appreciate every time you pick the knife up.

As a maker THAT is what I call motivation and inspiration. He is one of my favorite makers and people.

Congrats on a great piece.

Very beautiful knife. When I tell my girlfriend about a new knife I want she just goes "what are you going to do another knife?" lol, she is amazing in all other aspects though, so it a fair trade off. Congrats on the wonderful wife and the beautiful knife.

Marcel, congratulations on having a wonderful wife and a fine Fuegen work of art. YOU ARE IN DEED A LUCKY MAN.

I agree with David, it sure would be nice to see that wonderful collection.

On a personal level, I don't care that much for Fuegen's work, but now and then I see a beauty - and this is my favorite, congratulations, ---covet,covet,covet---

Marcel,
One of the most beautiful Fuegens I've ever seen, the guard and the elegance of the blade, the entire package.

You're twice lucky, but then you know that.

John

You're a lucky guy Marcel.

The knife is outstanding - easily one of my favorite Fuegen bowies. Hats off to your wife - what a gal!

Roger

The usual superlatives seem rather trite with this one.

I don't think I wouldn't trade my fantastic wife for yours, but I'm willing to entertain offers.

This one is a serious front runner for Bowie of the Year
