I just wanted to inquire as to how many people have and use one of Larry Harley's knives? I know some people that go on the hog hunts, but the guy makes some pretty cool everyday stuff too. I am posting this pic of some of his less flashy utility knives(#2 and #5 are spoken for. ;) ) that Larry has on his site. All blades are Bos heat treated 154CM with boron coating and black micarta. Prices are right too. www.lonesomepineknives.com for those curious.

I am still waiting for my "Les Robertson Special" though. Larry is making me a little hunter with 52100 blade, mokume bolsters and jig bone handles! ;)

I don't have one of Larry's knives but I did see him win a cutting contest with one. At the show and tell on Sunday of the hammer in, Larry has shown some very nice damascus blades that were in the art class. I didn't know that he had made such nice pieces. He does do good work.

for some reason i meandered by larry's site and saw that too...

very tempting

larry's posts are also some of my favorites around here..... the fellow does not mince words!

I just snagged one of these and consider it a huge bargain. Like bandaidman said, Harley is the most concise and original thinker on the forums, as well as a master.

I've seen quite a bit of Larry's stuff.., but haven't got one yet. Very nice picture Danbo....thanks!

I gave an old deer hunting buddy one of these on loan 6 or 7 years ago, and he swears by it. Hasn't used any other knife steady since. It's his now!

I only paid $55 for it. It has the straight handle as opposed to the contoured style...

Gotta a Battle Bowie direct from Big Larry too. One scary piece of steel, I tell you. I keep it sheathed hanging on my bedpost.

THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!

al those knives were ground back in 90
about the time i picked up a hamer and decided to do things w fire
most of them sold from 150 to 200 at the time

I can't say why the one-of-a-kind damascus pieces don't fare as well as they should, unless (as Rhino says) its because the folks looking for that type of work don't associate you with it. But its obvious that you should keep making them! Sooner or later your work will be recognized for its unique style. In the meantime, you get the priceless opportunity to do what pleases you most, a benefit beyond the reach of most people. Hope things improve at home as well.

Hey Larry,

I think that your stuff is awesome. This being said, when I look at other pics of some of your pieces I've seen in the Point of Interest books, the recent pieces on your site seem a bit less sophisticated / finished maybe? Maybe it's just the pics on your site being a lower definition?

Obviously, your work is very much not classical, and for that I'd say it's firmly on the "art piece" side, even though I have no doubt they perform well. I'm sure that the Persian influence means that there's a smaller market for them than for more traditional shapes. So maybe it takes a while to develop the client base (although I realize that you're not a newbie by far.)

Have you tried selling some of your pieces with retailers? That would get you exposure.

Finally, I have to give you hard feedback here. I think that some customers find it important to be able to communicate easily with a maker, to establish some kind of relationship. Personally, I find it extremely hard to pay attention to what you write online. Obviously, you don't care much about spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. That's fine - that's a personal choice - but it makes your contributions 3 times harder to read as those by anyone else. It also might give the impression of someone sloppy to people who don't know your work.

I hope this doesn't come across as insulting, 'cause I really hope to help. Your work is outstanding.
