Larry Harley will be demonstrating his prowess at the forge in Meadows of Dan, Virginia on August 13, 2005. He will be set up in the parking lot of our store, Meadows Edge Knife Shop.

Come one, come all as our town is having a Folk Fair and Antique Show that day. There will be plenty for your families to do while you play with knives.

Knifemakers may bring their knives to sell or trade and space in the store will be provided for their wares. All money from sales will go to them.

The link below will tell you more about the Folk Fair. There will be several local craftsmen giving "how to" demonstrations that day. basket making, quilting, spinning, weaving and others plus Larry Harley at the forge.

Met him at a local gun and knife in his hometown a few years back. Nice knives! I will say he is the first Knifemaker I've met that seemed to have little interest in answering questions about his knives. Actually, it appeared he could have cared less whether anything was purchased. I had a pocket full of money and a real interest in one of them. Spent that money else where!

Hopefully things have changed in personality arena because he surely makes some fine knives.

Harley;
Damn sorry to hear that you are down. I really enjoyed our conversation about smelting steel in Alabama this spring. Was looking forward to trying to catch you again soon. The sky gets a lot bluer when don't know how long you will see it. Buck up Brother. Holler if you need anything.

For what it's worth, everyone I have known who knows Larry (or "harley harley" to some of us) generally likes him just fine. My brief online contacts with him (though not for some time) have not suggested otherwise.

Harley is a great guy. He always makes me feel welcome, offers help, and is smiling the whole time, even when I'm imposing ;). I think your experience was a one time deal.

I feel pretty low hearing you're sick Harley, although I'm sure you'll pull through it just fine.

Sir, I don't think you remember me. If you did, there is no way you could have mistaken me for anything but the working class guy I happen to be. No, I've never been the sort that has had people with their nose up my rear and I've certainly not had mine up others either.

I don't know if we are talking about the same show or not. If that was the only one you have been to, I guess so! Certainly I missed a few and made a few shows so I don't know for certain. Just observed the conversations was quite natural with the your friends at the table. I guess what bothered me more than anything else was your comments to one of those people after I tried to ask a question. Not word for word but basically the fact you where at the show to sell knives not to answer questions.

Pardon me for not knowing all about your personal life. Don't know why I should have known or considered there might be some sort of problem (since that was the first time we met) when you were setup at the show to sale and the conversations with your friends appeared very normal. The conduct struck me as simply someone having a measure of success at something they like and letting that success go to their head. Guess I was wrong! For my assumptions, I apologize but I certainly do think were the rolls reversed, it likely you might have made the same assumption if I had acted in the same fashion

I am sorry to hear that you are ill and still say you make very nice knives.

Sorry to hear you're sick Larry,

Come on down and see us at Trackrock and just relax for the w/e.

Just a word of advice folks. When someone posts about an event that a maker will be going to, or anything relative to some activity involving his business life. Keep your friggin personal opinions to yourself. If something the maker did is that important to you. Take it up with him personally.

Mr. Williams:

I read your response and actually started to post nothing but..,

If someone in business conducts himself in a unbusiness like its seems fair game to discuss the conduct. It could be numerous reasons from not delivering goods as ordered for no reasonable reason to just generally being ill mannered in their interaction with customer. You act like I accused him of making a shody product or doing something illegal!

Don't know how you grew up but my Mom always told me you only get one chance at first impression. My impression was just as I posted and its basically the reason I did not purchase that day or since. I said he did not appear interested in answering question or a sale. That is all I said! As it turns out, though why I should have known, this seems to have been a troubled period in this man's life. I'm sorry for that period and the current state things are for him now. I've apologized for misunderstanding the situation. From my perspective, until Mr. Harley responded and others as well, that was factual to me. That being said, I always try to be honest in my responses, so I'll respond from an honest perspective anytime I friggin please.
