Hi, I am building my first lockback folding knife and have never used shim stock before. Can any of you tell me where to buy some .002 thick shim stock to use for peening the pivot pin properly? I found some at Grainger's but it was 6 inches by 100 inches in a roll and cost a bunch. Can I buy a smaller amount to build a dozen folding knives or so. What kind should I get? Thanks for any help. Larry

Thanks so much for telling me where to buy a 8" x 12" sheet of .002 thick shim stock for a little over $7.00 plus shipping. I would be lost in the woods without you Blade Forum readers. I am grateful for your help. Larry Lehman, Bakersfield, California P.S. Maybe I can finish my folder and have it open and close! LL

Darrin, Thanks for the suggestion. I have not used the foil since I do not grind my own blades yet or heat treat them. I have been buying blades and drilling them with carbide bits and grinding the tangs to shape slowly with heat sinks on the blade. So far I have been just putting nice wood and bone on other people's blades and shaping the scales. I finish and tool the sheaths and call it good. When I can afford a nice grinder I will try grinding my own blades and have someone else temper and heat treat until I can get that equiptment also. I want to make knives like the big boys but am going slow. Thanks, Larry Lehman www.lehmancustomknives.com
