Laser Engraver - Is there one we can afford?

For a chef knife this would be an excellent way of creating a custom ID and label.


Any drawbacks?

I'm sure the price is very high - but it would be a worthy investment.

Any idea where to purchase one? What would be the requirements for laser engraving stainless?

Most knifemakers have custom stamps or custom etching masters made. Laser engraving machines are prohibitively expensive. An electro-etching machine is probably best for your purpose.
