Hey guys. Just got an ESEE Laser Strike and I've fallen in love with it. This is my first ESEE, but I can promise it wont be my last.

I am a big guy; 6'9" 350lbs. I usually wear cargo pants or shorts, an untucked tshirt and prefer NOT to wear a belt (suspenders instead). I'm used to carrying a large folder in my pocket, but the LS hasn't fit in any configuration I'd feel comfortable with, with the original sheath and clip for pocket carry. I'm also used to carrying a smaller blade (3.5") on my waistband horizontally clipped as if there was a belt there, at about the 1'clock position. I'm thinking that will be my preferred carry method for the LS too.

The other consideration (and this is why I haven't really found a pocket method that works with the original sheath) is I have to remain discrete when carrying a blade this large. For various reasons. Follow me?

Any suggestions? Thanks for your time!

Since your untucked, any high ride sheath would do, wear it on the south of the clock (above 3 and below 9) should do you well. going IWB would be a bit more discrete. You can go horizontal if you want or in the scout position if you're really worried about imprinting, but that kind of stuff goes away with practice and being conscious of what you're carrying.

Thanks for the reply! I'm a gun guy so I understand exactly what you're saying.

However, I'm a relative knife newbie, and even more so when it comes to fixed blades. Can you recommend specific sheath/holsters you're envisioning? Links maybe even?

Again, thanks for the reply and your time!

Most of the sheaths that I like, for lack of a better term, go both ways. I've decided about a year or so ago to start carrying fixed blades only, and I've never looked back, my latest acquisition shows how this is possible with Kydex, If you're a leather guy (I like both). There are a number of super talented leathersmiths here I'm working with one right now to do a horizontal cross draw. Here is a list of sheath makers here.

Some of them are harder to get in touch with than others these are super busy folk. It helps to have something in mind before hand but all of the people I've dealt with here are really nice and easy to work with...

LOL yeah I have a bad feeling I've been bitten by the fixed blade bug. Just when I got done swearing off expensive hobbies... !

That blade you linked to looks awesome! And I think I see what you're saying with the sheath; the paracord creates loops for your belt to pass through. Do I have that right? If so, any thoughts about how to run something like that, but with no belt?

I don't know if you're familiar with Shadow Tech Knifes, but the kydex clip they have for their sheaths are kind of what I have in mind. Not sure how feazable something like that is for a knife as large/heavy as the ESEE, or even if there are better approaches. http://www.stknives.com/SHEATH_OPTIONS.html

Here you can see a bunch of the clips lined up for drilling. These mount to the sheath in any number of angles, and the clip is substantial enough to fit around a pant waistband and hold secure.

I have a few sheets of kydex laying around, although I never could develop a knack for it. Maybe I'll try creating a clip like above, for the LS. Cant hurt to give it a shot, I suppose...

You say you prefer not to wear belts, you should look at the G-Clip, it's applications are much more flexible than those things, they're branded Spyderco, but the inventor is a forumite here.

I've made tons of belt loops like those... the G-clip is better... much much better.
