Laser Strike

The Laser Strike will soon be re-introduced. All problems with the flint striking capability have been resolved through a selective hardening process. This special process maintains the full strength capability of the knife as well as providing a surface to strike true flint.

We have received an overwhelming demand for the current model of the Laser Strike as well as the original design of striking true flint on the back strap. Due to this we will now offer two models of the Laser Strike. The Military and Police model (MP) will be the same knife as before including all the standard features and black powder coating, but without the true flint striking capability on the back strap. The Outdoor Survival (OS) model will be the same knife as the MP including all the standard features, but it will have an industrial lacquer finish and fully capable of striking true flint on the back strap. We expect to have both models in stock soon (2-3 weeks). Prices will be the same for either model. Thanks for your patience on this matter.

Special thanks to Mike Fuller's and TOPS hard work and absolute desire and drive to produce the knife as designed, and also special thanks to Rob Simonich for his help on the heat treating issues.

I apologize for all the updates as this process was resolved, but we felt the public should be kept fully aware of our progress on this project.

Excellent news, Jeff. It's a great idea to offer two different versions, also. And for the collectors out there, it's another variant to add to the collection. :~}

Is there any way to design the sheath so that it's ambi? That way, instead of offering different sheaths, and maybe not having a leftie in stock, us sinister types could just switch the sheath around ourselves. Just an idea from a knife buyer who *hates* not being able to find a good sheath for a new knife.

Jeff,

Will the military and police models still have the exposed and raised tang in between the back of the handle scales? If so, why? I would imagine that a raised tang protruding from the back center of the handle would be uncomfortable and unecessary on this model.

Will the MP or OS models be stamped or otherwise marked/noted on the blade or ricasso so that you can tell how each has been/should be tempered? It might be helpful if they're resold.

Michael, if it's clear coated then it will strike flint. If it's powder coated then it won't be designed for that. Simple actually.

Volvi, We have had no complaints from the raised back strap so that will not change. This is one of the things we specifically asked some soldiers in the military to give us feedback on. So far, the units that are using the knife like it as is.

Shrake, If you want a left handed model then we can do that easily. Just let me know and we will make the sheath opposite for you.

From initial design to first production and a small "blimp" comes two choices for an excellent survival knife. Now we can "have it our way" or have it both ways. It seems the indicacation were that a demand for one, the other, or both were out there and that demand has been met.

I am amazed not only at the effort it has taken to resolve certain issues, but how three professionals, working from different disceplines, refused to surrender to what might have been consider an impossible task.

It just goes to show that "Yankee" inginuity is not easily defeated!
No, no..what I mean is certain elements of Middle-East inginuity would have failed right off the bat...there would have been no place for them to hide.

Thank you for keeping us informed. Thank you for the honesty, integrity and resolve. This knife will save lives or make the task leading to that event easier.

:)
