I think this is where this goes because its not specifically tactically related. Has anyone used one of these for "dry fire" training? You insert it in the barrel and it "triggers" on hearing the hammer strike and flashes on. You can also get a "target" that records each shot, although I'm not sure that is for the trainer or only for the blue pistol kit.

I have a 2.75 inch SP101 that I think would be fun to practice this with, but the reviews on line are mixed, and its not exactly cheap.

For the SP101, you would get more benefit shooting wax bullets out of primed brass. That's how Bill Jordan used to practice.

These guys sell 500 waxed bullets for $12. Add in $34 for 50 .38 special cases that use 209 shotgun shell primers, and then $25 for 1000 primers.

For the $100 of the laserlyte, you'll have 1000 waxed bullets, which will allow you to take multiple shots and truly improve your shooting. Not to mention a lot more fun than the laser.

My wife would not appreciate that in the living room. I take it that you didn't like the laserlyte?

No, I like the laserylyte very much, but in a DA auto pistol. You can just keep pulling the trigger. In a Glock, it's also fun but a bit more hassle as you have to keep pulling back the slide to reset the trigger.

The problem is your SP101. With a revolver, you're going to have to break open the cylinder and rotate the cylinder back each time between shots, which will get old really quickly.

That's why I suggested the wax bullets for your application. Perhaps set up a heavy drop cloth backstop in the garage, or your backyard?

Oh, gotcha. But it was 18 below the other day in my backyard! I'm having a hip replaced this week and was looking for a way to somewhat productively pass the time while I'm stuck at home. The laserlyte trainer I looked at looked like it went into the barrel so maybe that version wouldn't require the constant rotation, which I agree would get old in a hurry.
