What's are a few good and simple knots to use for lashing objects together?

Example situations:

Lashing sticks together for a shelter frame

Fixing brush, branches, or debris to a shelter frame

Tying a bundle of wood together

Any situation in which you'd want to secure (tightly) one object to another by tying a rope around them.

Thanks in advance.:)

Nice! Thanks Pit! Simple and easy to remember. Been using reef knots, this looks to be a ton better. Will give it a try this weekend, see how easy it is to recover the rope (aside from the lost section) after tying it.

Other favorites are still welcome

Btw, Doc_Canada, what was that sliding knot you prefer instead of the tautline hitch? I seem to recall you called it the adjustable grip hitch or soemthing....

Hey rk, my preferences depend on my mood and how much whisky. :D

I think this is what you're referring to:

(I'm going to have to make up my own drawing one of these days.)

I also use the Camel Hitch:

Lashing sticks together for a shelter frame, I would use the approved Boy Scout lashings, unless short of cordage, then I would use a short piece with a toggle - tightened like a tourniquet. (no pictures on PB at the moment)

For tying a bundle of sticks together, I usually use either a single or double constrictor. A single - basically a Clove Hitch with one extra movement:

Most of these knots I make slippery for ease in untying.

Hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you want.

Doc

Excellent, thanks Doc :thumbup: Will email if I run into any issues.

Thanks Michael as well.

Lashing sticks together for a shelter frame - square lashing

Fixing brush, branches, or debris to a shelter frame - blood knot, half hitches

Tying a bundle of wood together - reef knot, blood knot, loop one end and half hitches on other end

Any situation in which you'd want to secure (tightly) one object to another by tying a rope around them - loop one end (bowline) and half hitches on other end

Thanks Dartanyon. Yeah, I've never done a square lashing before, going to have to learn and practice that one. What do you mean by loop/bowline on one end and half-hitches on the other? Can't picture it.
