2 Days ago pulled all the traps on the small line that I usually walk every year with snowshoes. Its an 8 mile roundtrip.
It was such a beautiful day -17c conditions for walking were excellent.
The dog carried an empty pack,as I went along and up the trail I would spring the traps and leave them to the side.On the way back I would carry one trap until I reached the next then place one in each side of the dog pack to even out the load

Next few shots are just of scenery and a few animal tracks.
When finished trapping for the season I like to see some tracks of the animals I target.Marten ermine coyote mink and such.I saw around 5-6 marten tracks very good. Proper population management is always a concern for us trappers

I love your trapline posts Dan'l. I'm ridiculously jealous of the area you have to play in, absolutley beautiful. Thanks for the post brother:thumbup:

that's a wonderful dog db--certainly gives great company on the trapline--one of the loneliest activities around. hats off to you guys since i consider trapping to be one of the most arduous activities around. i often mention to fantasy lovers that the fact our trappers have found no evidence of big foot certainly casts doubts of his existance.please show us more of that beautiful scenery.--dennis

Thanks for sharing the trapline photo's and stories. I really enjoy them. Such a different life you live compared to my IT office job :-) Wonderful. Btw, what kind of mitts work for you in minus 17c? Looks like leather with a wool liner?

Excellent pics. Thanks for sharing your season with us. I look forward to the next one!

What happened with that wolverine that was stealing from your traps? Did you trap it?

DB, those pictures and text sure brought back memories from a long time ago. My brother & I used to run traps on our farm when we were just wee little ones, but not with the views you have. Cornfields, beanfields, & an occasional grass meadow was our environment, along with a few groundhogs, pheasants, and the occasional muskrat if we were lucky with our traps. Great area, thanks for letting us go with you.
Be safe.

Wow, I just ran the numbers, that is 1.4F. Nippy to say the least.

Do you trap just for fun?

Thanks
Im only a hobby trapper like most nowadays
The gloves I wear are hand knit wool with leather outers they are waterproofed with a homemade cocoction that I use for waterproofing.(I had posted the recipe last summer for treating canvas) Its been cold as -35 and the gloves have always worked wonderfully for me
The wolverine got a free pass this season he is one that got smacked by a smaller trap and learned a huge lesson very weary of anything manmade and will not go near.I did set out some traps but think my scent free gloves got contaminated somehow as he avoided everything.Kinda cool to see how cautious they become.I didnt have the time to persue him properly as the equipment takes lots of time to prepare.
Stay tuned though I do plan on setting a trail camera out and seeing if I can coax him into camera focus

i tried my own beeswax & lanolin formula on a sheath but it was too stiff. the fact your formulation stays pliable at those temps is certainly wonderful, i wo'nt ask you for a repeat since i'm in tex. & at 72 will probably stay here, hats off to your innnovation.---dennis
