Last night on 24 Jack Bauer used somes sort of pocket knife to pry open a computer case and then unscrew a hard drive. It looked like a POS knockoff to me but I'm wondering if it was actually something decent.

i DVR'd it, and it appeared to me to have 3 holes in the upper part of the blade (at first i thought spyderco) and after running it back/forth a time or 3 i concluded it was a POS, anyone else see it??

love that show myself, just started watching around new yrs though. one of the better shows on TV imho.

In the first season, a BG posing as an ordinary businessman pulled a Microtech auto on Jack in a car. After jack pounds on him and relieves him of the blade, he even hollars the name of the knife to the perp, like "if youre' so and so, what are you doing with a Microtech "so and so" ( I forget the actual model used)

I think the one from the first season of 24 was a HALO. Not one of the newer auto retracts.

I've seen HALO's used in a few of Ben Aflecks movies. Wonder if its something he likes or they all just happen to use the same prop company?

I don't recall the Season 1 knife, that was before I got too heavily involved in this hobby, unfortunately....

However, Tuesday night's knife seemed to fit the blood-groove pattern of the Microtech HALO models, although the overall blade width is a bit too wide, but that could have been due to perspective and/or lighting.

I'm trying to run that through the Microholics, to see if anyone has a high-quality playback of the scene -- my VCR could only pick up vague details.

The producers/writers of the show may be knife fanatics, as both Microtech (Season 1) and Extrema Ratio (just earlier this season) have both been featured prominently.

KnifeMart, on the web, claims to have been the provider of the Halo.

Thanks for the reply, Boink :) , but I truly do not think that it is the HALO III on the show this past week -- there were distinct open "blood-grooves" (i.e. HALO II) that passed through the rear of the blade near the top. If anything the HALO III was featured in The Long Kiss Goodnight, where one of the BGs threatened a family in church.

One of the Microholics did come forward to offer that it looked like a Vector, and reviewing its blade profile, I'm inclined to agree.

CFI, through whom Mr. Southerland has contacts as a fan of Microtech, however, has not stated directly which knife was used on the show.

I am new to 24, just started watching the first season on DVD last week, and just saw this episode this morning, it was a Microtech HALO..Bauer clearly says the name, and keeps the knife to use later...really cool show!

Lot´s of knives on 24, in the first season one of the serbian bad guys also pulls out a knife and holds it to the neck of i think it was lou dimond phillips, any idea what blade that was.
happy that the show uses real blades.

Looked like a Severtech, though I don't know for sure. They've also used a Protech Godfather in earlier episodes.

I really surprised he did not carry a SAK with phillips driver to take that hard drive out. I am sure he would have been able to do it faster. But then, the drama would not have been as effective.

I have a positive identification on the knife in question.

While I was at the Oregon show today I talked to the owner of Knife Mart. Knife Mart is the company that supplies the knives for "24".

The knife with the 4 holes is a Piranha auto. Made in Idaho.

Last year I bought a UMS from these folks and we talked quite a bit about the knives that were used earlier in the series.
