My wife's folks are over from South Africa so we tried to make them feel at home and had a potjie pot for their first meal in old blighty - used a SJTAC for just about everything: chopped the kindling, carved the handles for the lid, stoked the coals, cut the potatoes... For some reason (probably the booze) said knife did not make it into any of the pics but I'm sure we will have another potjie before they go and I will add some pics to this thread to keep the content full of Busse !!

My father just said, WOW, that's a heavy knife - what steel is it ? :D- he really liked it

Today, whenver he needed any excuse it was like ; "where's your knife?"

Some incredible waste of human skin put a nice size dent in the side of my car (must have been in a car park) and we did some amatuer panel beating - Dad was like, get me your knife I need it ! Used it cut the seal of the door card and he even started to pry the metal with the SJATC's tip - "Wait, wait I said" but it was too late the INFI had already started to do more damage than was there already but hey it was funny !! :p It's just a car !!

For your enjoyment :

no idea what that was - looks cool though !!!

Forgot to add I did a little chopping with the SJTAC (logs around the fire) It was hard work but that was porbably due to just bein lazy and wanting to drink !! Wish there were some pics of the knife cos it earned it's keep last night. I didn't want to break out the NMFBM - might make my father in law question his common sense when he said I could marry his daughter !!!

:D

Great pics. Can we get more info on the ingredients? And how many Fosters were consumed?

Beauty of Potjie is you can experiment and put anything you want in, this one went like this:

3 pounds of chicken thighs (with skin and bone)
5 onions
20 new potatoes
1/2 tub of mild curry powder
Tumeric
Cayenne pepper
1/2 can of fosters
1/2 glass of red wine
Pint of water

Idea is to brown the chicken and onions then layer the veg add the seasoning and close but don't stir - let it cook for around 2 hours! Lots of time to drink, didn't count the cans or the wine but I'm a light weight since I became a Daddy! Enough to help sleep come fast and make it a little harder to wake me up to start the never ending barrage of things to do!

Hint...tatty...hint...hint! Well, seems like your father knows what he wants for Christmas. Might as well just give it to him and not bother wrapping it up.
