I don't know if anyone has noticed, but w-mart has changed their knife display and replaced Schrades with Buck slipjoints. I noticed earlier this week and stopped back today see what was left of the closeouts. I found a UH King Ranch and the X-TIMER slipjoint still in the case, for 9 and 7 $ each. They both went home with me. I was really pleased to get the UH for such a good price, its alot of knife for 9 $. I didn't get a chance to check out the Bucks, but it looks like the same lineup, style-wise, that used to be represented by Schrade. They had a single blade peanut, 2 blade pen, med. and large stockmen. I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if all of them were made in China. W-mart has been selling China made Buck sj's for a while now. Has anyone had a chance to checkout where these Bucks are made?

Back to the Schrades, there were a couple of tactical-style linerlock models left also, but they didn't interest me, Schrade never did do the tactical linerlock very well, just wasn't their thing in my opinion. Haven't had a chance to give them more than a look over yet, but the X-TIMER slipjoint looks nice and we know about the stockman. I'll talk about them more when I've had a chance to give them a little pocket time.

"Abandon all hope, ye who enter here"... for any company entering into a sales agreement with Wal*Mart.

But good for you, OTGuy!

I asked the sporting goods associate at my local Wal-Mart if I could look at a couple of the Buck slipjoints. He stated they hadn't arrived yet. I said something about that being odd as they had a new picture poster and he looked at me like I was an idiot and repeated that the new knives hadn't arrived yet. I noticed a couple of the other Bucks pictured had USA on the tangs but the Buck slipjoints did not so I am afraid they might be made in China. :grumpy:

On the Buck Diamondbacks (Made in Taiwan), and the recent Buck Whitetail Deer Collectible (Made in China), I've noticed that these knives have "Buck" along with the model number on the opposite side of the knife than the China or Taiwan stamps, whereas the "Made in USA" Bucks have "Buck," the model number, and 'USA' all stamped into the same side. That may be some kind of a Buck stamping rule, but I haven't yet compared enough Made in Taiwan/China Buck models to see if it's consistant all across the "overseas" model lines.

Sad to have to check where Bucks Knives are made...

I was flabbergasted to see that the Wally World that I had just gotten Schrades at the week before, this Friday it was all Buck and Gerber, too. Sporting goods managers were probably trying to order more Schrade because they were high sellers. Heh, poor bastards. I think that the associate I spoke with at the Hanover PA store was the only one in the dept who knew what he was talking about, I told him about Schrade, and he said he bought a few to sell later on down the road. Well, next stop Smoky Mtn Knife Works.
