ok, I'm outa funds, so I need help deciding what's my last folder b4 I make the jump to custom (hoping to save money to get a Mike Snody Retaliator, RJ Martin Wasabi or one of Neil Blackwoods blades - are these good choices?) mebbe end of the year / next year - really broke now :( . I've posted other threads but thought I'd start a new one to consolidate comments.

I'm looking for a good folder for edc (cardboard, paper, rope, food, etc) during weekdays and (anything) during weekends (for eg. I had to cut nylon webbing off a backpack last week to salvage the buckles). The folder should also look good, have good corrosion resistant qualities (I live in a hot humid salty environment) and have a mean and shaving sharp edge (and be able to hold it too). BT2 coating is not my favourite as my experience with my CQC7 is that once it starts getting scratched, it's not so nice to look at :( plus you need to be extra careful when sharpening. As it is my last folder, it needs to be strong and can last me forever. Must have good steel. I find the Endura blade a little to large - 3.65 inch is my favourite length. I plan to carry this on my backpacking trips; kayaking excursions; biking trips; travelling etc.

I've narrowed it down to 2:
(1)BM 710 (can't find the M2 w/o BT2 coating)
(2)Spyderco Wegner

Some concerns:
- Wegner is heavy. What is the actual weight? - forumites mention 5oz but the Spydie is always described as 6oz on the online shops.
- I already have a SOG x-ray vision. Is getting the BM 710 going to add anything? My thinking here is whether BM 710's fame rest with the axis lock, which is similar to SOG's arc-loc, yes?
- Should I just wait for the Spydie Ocelot to be produced? How much is the Ocelot?

Hoping for your counsel....

Thanks to everyone's comments on my earlier threads!:D

It would be nice if someone would not mind parting with a NIB Wegner PE for less than $70 or trade + cash (I have a used and sharpened CQC7BTS). Anyone who would like to help a guy struggling with his finances but who still likes knives...?:)

spyken,
Have you considered the Camillus EDC with the talonite blade ?
Good looking knife that stays sharp for a long time. Great EDC.
Good Collecting !

I rotate my EDC's. When I needed a knife for bicycle riding (sweat) and light duty (string, boxes, envelopes) I went with the Kershaw Whirlwind.

It took a good edge with the Edgepro, it hasn't got any corrosion and even with hard use, I can go for a whole week if I strop with some white rouge.

I think I paid 55 bucks, and this is my second Whirlwind. A friend came over to my house while I was sharpening the first one and bought it before I finished with the polishing tapes!

Well, you certainly have done well to narrow it down to the two you have. Both a not just good knives, their great knives. I no longer have the Wegner (just sold it a couple months ago, $70 shipped ;) ), I just never could get comfortable with it. It is built like a tank and has a nice blade profile for most jobs. Still have the 710 though, and am looking to buy another. Just one of my favorites. Not far behind though is the 730. more to your liking blade length wise and if you can find one of the carbon fiber versions, they are the cat's meow.

The Spyderco Native is an excellent knife, and great for all around carry.

I wish I had one of the G10 models, but I guess my FRN model is good enough...

The Wegner is tough, takes a great edge and has one of the most comfortable handles I've held. It also looks innocent which is always a plus for an edc.
