And what a nice final "incoming" of the year.
Was lucky enough to stumble onto this one actually in stock at a popular dealer site this past Wednesday morning, and jumped on it. Had more or less resigned myself with having to pay secondary market pricing if I really wanted one, so finding one at e-tailer discount is icing on the cake.
I should say that I really don't care for the compression lock. Never have. It just feels awkward to me. However, I love the Para 2's design. The handle shape is excellent, the blade length ideal, and the tip-up option combined with the relatively light weight make for an ideal EDC. Then there's the pivot bushing and nested liners...it's a great package.
So I've come to terms with the compression lock, and have decided to just accept it. Surprisingly enough, this sprint model's locking tab sits further forward than the regular Para 2 I have, and as such, is a bit easier to unlock. I've gotten used to unlocking it one-handed, and while not exactly fluid or elegant, it works. At least it's a stout locking method.
Anyway, it's been said a hundred times before, but this model is truly nice. Fit and finish are off the charts good. The action is excellent, and there's zero blade play when locked up. The blade sits dead center right out of the box, and the edge is hair-popping sharp. This is one of the models that if asked "why do you like Spyderco so much?" I would hand to them as evidence why.
Anyway, some obligatory pics:

While it's the final arrival for 2010, the first arrival for 2011 will be an orange Manix 2.
Happy New Year to Sal, Eric and the rest of the Spyderco crew!
