hey there,

just curious about peoples' style of latch release. i'm used to a Manila style latch, where i can hold the safe handle and release the latch with my pinkie. but my '42 will have a Batangas latch. should i use the same release and just rotate the knife in my hand to grab the safe handle? i also thought if i use pouch-type sheath i could use the edge of the mouth of the sheath to hook the latch, that is if the knife goes in the sheath punyo first. but, i'll probably use the concealex-vertical-tang first sheath that 1SKS is currently shipping with the '42.

what do you do?

be well,

rob

Well, I've never used a Manila-style latch, so I can't really say.

Can't you just pop the latch open with your pinky again? It's just on the other side, although it might be a little awkward at first.

dragon1,

tried that, but can't reach the latch with the pinkie because the 'nub' of the latch is pressed into my palm. suppose i could just go latchless.

Yeah...I don't have much experience dealing with latches, since my Jag broke shortly after I got it and I've been too lazy to fix it.

I have a latchless cheapie, but not because I wanted to have one...the latch pin came out.

I hold the balisong just with my fingers and not against my palm. I think that you'll find that easier to disengage the latch with your pinkie, manila-style or batangas-style.

Hope that helps.

as you suggested - I use my pinky then twist and readjust my grip.. is the most practical way i think and takes a little gettgn used to.. helps your pinky muscles too

or you can get a custom conceale auto poper sheath done by Draper.

sniperboy,

sounds good,

i just ordered a Jag to get me used to batangas latch, before my '42 shows up. so i'll have lots of time to 'play'.

thanks for the replies.

yeah, I just hold the bali with my finger tips and pop the latch with my pinky, from there you can turn it either way for manila or batangas latches. One thing about a great balisong artist is the ability to manipulate both styles of latches.
