Latch Problem

I am working on my first automatic, a latch, and things are going well, almost done, but the tip of the blade won't sit all the way into the handle. Is there too much spring pressure on it? Is there too much play in the hole in the blade? I am trying a new design, it is not the D shaped hole in the blade, it is a straight pin through ( a Steve Hill development) What can I do to make the blade sit lower in the handle?
