Meant to post this right after I went hiking, but a lot's been going on in the past few days.

Anyways, went on a hike on the 4th up at Ramapo Valley Reservation here in NNJ. It was super humid, but the weather was nice, and I wanted to get out of the house and clear my head. On to the pics.

Along the way, I found a folding saw in a downed tree blocking the trail. I called out to see if anyone was around that may have left it, but no reply. So I told myself that if it was still there on my way back down the trail, I'll scoop it up.

Well, turns out, it was stuck and the person had left it there. I was going to leave it when I remembered I had the 9 in my pack, and decided to go to town and rescue this poor saw.

Ended up getting the saw out, and figured I should finish up the tree and clear the trail a bit. So the new pair tag-teamed the rest of the tree

Turns out, it was a sven saw (21"). This thing saws like a beast. I kinda wish I had my laplander with me to help, but the 9 was more than capable of handling this task. Overall, a great day, and a great find. Cheers.

Cool series of pics- and the Sven saw is worth about $40 at my local REI! Those are great tools and they fold up into an easy to carry size and shape- you got a nice dose of "trail magic" there!
I like this thread because:
1) Great Outdoor views2
2) The flask pic is a nice addition- something I would do myself!
3) You used a BK9, that should make a lot of peeps here happy!
4) You wound up using one great outdoor tool as the means for getting another great outdoor tool!

Very nice pics. I believe the only place that I have been in NJ is Newark. That is way nicer. :p

Beautiful area! Looks similar to some spots we have here next to the river and lake. And what a take down with the BK9! How long did it take you to make it through that hoss of a tree?

I'd say a solid 5 minutes to get to what you see here. Took a few more whacks then kicked the end off. The part where the saw was stuck, I ended up finishing up with the saw to see how it would fare. Awesome combo of tools IMO. Thanks for looking!

That's a great find! Great pix, the 9 is a fine hiking companion.

Thanks! The 9 sure is great. I almost took the 16 with me, which is my usual hiking companion, but I'm very glad I brought the king this day. Would have been an ordeal trying to do the same with the 16.

That's a beautiful area to hike in. Good job liberating the Sven saw too, you're gonna love it. I've had one for years and it rides nice in a pack or kayak.

Looks like a wonderful time. Keep up the good work!
