Sometimes these are called French mullberry but since they are in Texas I call them American Beauty Berry. They ripen in the fall to a really cool purple color and are really good to eat right off the bush. I even got the grandkids eating them like popsicles. The blade that was just right for the job was an 11.5 " Sirupati by Rajkumar.

The bushes have long thin straight branches with clusters of berries at each leaf node. One sharp quick flick worked out just wonderfully. Fast and small enough to put back in my pocket and take my berries to the next bush.

They make good wine too if you get enough of them!

Im a little too late this year getting to them or there would have been a lot more for the picking. The leaves make a very good mosquito repellant. I have tried it and they do work. Wet one hand shake it off and rub both hands together and you get just enough water to roll a few leaves together into a wad. Keep rolling until the you get the juice out of them and rub it on exposed skin and hope your not allergic to them. Good to do a test spot first if your new to it.

Here is what you end up with except hopefully much more. Oh well next year ill be ready! Cleaning them from the stalk is as easy as a rubbing or twisting motion relieving them of the stem. I did try another way and worked surprisingly well! Maybe thats what the cho is for:cool: One quick pull with the thumb across the top of the cho stripped them clean from the stem! Bigger stem requires bigger cho! Closed cho may even be better?

And Whallla! A jar and a half of jam! Not much but sure is good! Has a light tangy but very addictive flavor. Very unique!

Time for butter and bisquits! Enjoy!

I think I have some of these in my yard but I've been unsure if they were edible of not. I will have to look closer later and maybe try them out. I've also got a couple nice wild blueberry bushes.

They grow all over youre neck of the woods phill! They are pretty unmistakable! Wild blueberries! That would be cool!

Yep the blueberries just popped up one day. One of the plants is in a bad spot in the middle of my yard, but I refuse to cut it down.

I've gotta try the beauty berries now.

Phil do not eat them blueberries! No joke! They are poke salat and deadly poison! If ya do pack up all your khuks and send them my way first:eek:Beauty berries are edible but them berries will kill you deader than general Ulyssimo Franko. People actually eat the greens from that plant but they have special process of multiple boiling before they are edible! If they are poke salat the stems will be purple! They atre fun to chop up with khuks!

Nice. Lovin' the jam.
I used the Cho on my 17 3/4" WWII to snap fencing wire some time ago. Very cool, maybe a thread on it's own, lol, What did you do with your Cho today?

I don't know pumpkin for watermelon but them leaves didn't look the same to me. The berry and the locations looked similar.

Gotta be kind of careful what you stick down your neck.

Lol I don't plan on eating anything growing in my yard I don't think. It was all covered in spiders. Don't worry guys. But thanks for the heads-up!

I'm sure spiders are a delicacy someplace.

One of my co workers this morning took a picture of a frozen spider web out back. Very pretty. I wrote back that the spider was probably hanging around in her nice warm property room. Supervisor thought I was mean!

I told her I was a spider in a previous life and was doing fine until I got run over by the wheel on an office chair, wasn't pretty.

To show the intelligence of my supervisor she said "Really"? I threw up a little bit in my mouth.

You probably got things in your back yard that would eat you! Gators, Pythons, Tegus....

Here's a fat little momma spider I found in my front yard recently. Was fun trying to get her to stay still for the photo. She was ticked off I took her dog food bag. We also have brown recluse. They are scarry!

Actually I take that back. I've got a pretty good tangerine tree back there. I have a grapefruit tree, too, but I don't like them.

I see quite a few black widows here. Lots of gators in the river right behind my house, but they're mostly harmless and the bank is steep enough that they don't come in my yard. I don't let my cats outside, though.

I see that smirk on Khukri kittys' face as he is about to roll that big blue marble down on some gators!

I am the biggest wuss when it comes to spiders. Must be the reason why am still alive... *shudders*
