Hi All,
I have been so busy lately that I haven't had the opportunity to upload any new photos - but I have definitely managed to get out for a few hikes. Here are a few views from a recent hike in the Gatineau Hills.
It was a terrific day for a wander through the woods:
I just about stumbled into a few fantastic deer beside a partially dried-out marshy area. They sprang away and watched me carefully from a distance.
A view from one of my favourite off-the-beaten-path vantage points:
It was a windy day up there. I had been gathering dry wood for a while, so I didn't have to scrounge around when I arrived. After strategically stacking the wood about my water bottle, I used a bit of bullrush fluff, some fuzz-sticks and shaved curls, and a scrap of char cloth go get a fire going. The wind ensured that the fire, once it had taken hold, spread quickly.
Here's a shot of my fire (and coffee-to-be) and my belt knife for the day - a Mora blade that I handled. It's a treat to carry and use.
Artistic view of the hills through the fire:
Hiking out:
After a day of hiking in Gatineau, I like to grab a pint in the village of Wakefield. I have been noticing this sign on the way to the pub for a while, and I decided to take a picture for you guys. Odd, isn't it? I assume it means that one is not allowed to hunt in the nearby woods, but I prefer to interpret it as 'Don't Shoot The Small Evergreens'.
All the best,
- Mike
