Late luck up?

I feel like the lockup on my Sebenza 25 is very late. Is it just me?

That is normal, or even early by 25 standards. The spec is the ball interface (which is offset in the lockbar face) should be up to 75 to 80%, and definitely not less than 50%. You knife is fine. The CRK lock up does not change in my observations so far. You can see the degree of your lockup by looking at the trail left by the ball when your knife is closed. Other makers have early lock up because they use cheezy materials that wear out. A later lock up is safer and stronger.

Thats just right, and about what CRK shoots for.
I don't have a 25, but from all of the Sebenza's I've seen yours looks to be the average.

Looks normal.
Mine Is bad... not sure why either since I rarely use it and never flicked.

Respectfully disagree my friend. That looks like it's in the perfect range to me.
As long as there is no lock stick or failure than that Lockbar looks like it's in the $ percentage.

+1. Mine is in the same range. I think the 25 is great BTW.

I think the 25 is misleading anyway as the ball is what makes contact and is seated in the middle of the lockbar thus appearing later. On the other hand, I've got an XM-18 in my hands right now. Similarly priced knife barely hanging on at about 5% lockup. You tell me which one is perceived to be better, and which one you think is safer.

I think the term/idea of early lockup was made up by somebody who wanted their knife to never wear out. Everybody moans and groans when a knife fails a "spinewack" test. Which do you think would hold up better? Chris made the knife, so if he wanted the lockup at 99% then that's what the knife was designed for. My large 21 is at about 60% and I couldn't be happier.

Why have such a beefy lock if most of the metal doesn't contact the blade tang? What many call late lockup is fine.

The scar you see on my pinky is from a knife brand famous for it's nice "early lock-up". I'm not going to name names and start a flame-war, but trust me, having a knife close on your hands really sucks! This happened to me when I had the knife wedged in some material at work and as I tried to pull the blade free, the lock popped and it closed on my hand. That was one of the reasons I bought my first CRK about 2 years ago. Be happy that Chris Reeve is looking out for your fingers when he designs these folders.

You know which would get me vote. This early lock up is overrated IMHO.
