My six year old son and I don't get a lot of time together, what with the money situation being so tight these days (since my job got axed). I work so much now at the job I have, plus shoeing horses, college and other stuff that I barely get time to see the little turd whacker. So, this past weekend was Dad/Son weekened and we decided to take a canoe trip and then go shoot our guns (the battery on the camera died before the gun stuff).
So, here are a few pics we snapped to commemorate the occasion:
This is our old canoe. An OD Sport 12 footer. It hauls three people and 700 lbs (I don't know what the Canadian math for that is, some kind of whacked out Martian extrapolation, I suppose). The lake is quieter this time of year, what with all the pleasure boaters being gone (thank ya Chay-zuss!). We met a few hunters crossing the lake, and a couple fisherman in John Boats.
Thought I'd snap a pic of down the lake. For no reason, really. It's just there. This is a little island, peninsula thing in the center that only boats can access.
This is my boy. He's a little outdoors nut. Wants a 243 rifle for Christmas this year. May get one, too!
He wanted to pose with this little Mora Tri-flex I gave him.
He wanted to whittle. So he grabbed a stick and we took some time for knife education. Important to a future outdoorsman.
Told you I don't go near the woods without it. Good reason I brought it this trip, and it's in the next photo...
Food and fire. We just scavaged the cabinets at home for a quick lunch. Not very nutritious, but it was hot and it did the trick on a blustery day.
The fire was started using a boyscout flint, a piece of .0000 steel wool, and some pine needles. (thank you, Ron Hood).
Our photo together. Look over my hair, I'm getting shaggy and didn't feel like pulling out the "Short Sexy Hair" styling balm.
It was a good day. We'll do it again soon.
