Hello everyone! I hate to admit it but I don’t have a Carothers yet (be gentle). I’m really liking the looks of the Dek1.

I have never even handled one but I like a knife around the 4” to 5” blade size.

Would I be fine with this one or is there another you would recommend for my first?

Without knowing your intended usage I will say, the DEK1 is a fantastic knife, it is my personal favorite CPK for everyday use.
The handle design and balance are my favorite among all of the CPK's I own.

There are a few in AEBL available on the CPK buy sell trade thread right now

Sorry forgot use. Yes, just an everyday knife. I have several fixed blade knives and edc knives but I want a Carothers. I want the 3v steel as well. Thanks!
If you want one in D3V and want it now, you’ll have to rely on the secondary market. You can post a “wanted to buy” in the CPK buy, sell, trade thread. Otherwise you will have to wait until CPK does another run of them. The DEK1, DEk2 and DEK3 are on the whiteboard.

Agree with everybody on the DEK1 .... the other knife that I really like for EDC is the Kephart. Super useful, and tool-looking (non-threatening). That one you can still order in D3V from the CPK website.

Roland.

That's an interesting (and for some folks, valid) consideration that I hadn't even thought about in ages (considering my love for Large Camp Knives with bigger/longer blades began sometime back when I was a cub scout. I guess I got inured to the, "Whoa... what the heck is THAT thing for?" 🤣).
