That's a nice hawk!
The handle kools like it is made out of maple, does it take use/abuse like hickory or ash do?

Very nice hawk. I love curly maple for hafts when its stained. How does 1045 perform? Do you find it to be too soft or just right for a hawk?

I think 1045 is a good choice for a hawk, you usually don't need any higher carbon steel.I have used 4140 but they forge about the same and are similar as to carbon content --Thanks fellas for all your comments----Regards
