141OT Outfitter- Probably the last of this series that I'll buy, but most likely to see the most use. I like the skinner design and the way the handles on this series feel. Deer season is fast approaching and hopefully I'll get a chance to try out some of these fixed blades I've been gathering up. It was a lightly used knife that needed a few small dings honed out of the front two inches of the blade.

A Toughtool screwdriver, the ones we've seen on ebay that have the interchangable bits. This will go into the collection, as I've got lots of other drivers laying around. A nice piece of memorabilia that usually goes cheap, you guys should add one to your collection if you get the chance.

104OT- Inspired by Codgers story, and the fact I didn't have one, I picked up a nice new one a week ago. Great little knife. Now I got to get a 18OT and I'll be up to speed on most of the penknife sized models, except the one with the scissors. Still waiting for a good deal to pop up on one of these.

Some nice knives there. I didn't try out my 141OT last year, but the 140OT was a champ. The wife got one for the kitchen, I have my own user, and one for the collection. I still need the 146OT Minimum Flex to complete the set.

I haven't gotten any of the tools. Maybe next year. I haven't even begun listing them, though that needs to be done.

I still need some of both the OT and UH slipjoints and lockbacks, but I have a lot of the common ones, and it seems like only one in two dozen of the ones I need go for cheap. I did get a 194OT Trapper this week, a 7OT, and a 49OT Rhino for $15. I had been watching for one off and on for a while, but they always went for more than I was willing to give. The Rhino is a relatively scarce and overlooked knife from the TPR Safe-T-Grip series. It evidently did not sell well, because it was only made for two years (02-03). It is not attractive to me and the guthook is not a feature I like or need in a hunting knife, but I did need one to help complete the Safe-T-Grip display. It listed for $39.95, which might be one reason it was a slow seller. Way too big to be a pocket carry at nearly 5" closed and weighing in at close to half a pound (4.5 oz. + 1 oz for the sheath).

I keep getting sidetracked by "targets of opportunity" too. Buying a Schrade from '80 - '04 is a decent deal for me if it can be gotten at 1/3 - 1/2 retail, 2/3 max. Of course the rarer or older stuff will demand more, but even that can be had at a very reasonable price if you are patient. I had been trying to get a near mint early 152OT Sharpfinger with a near mint first type sheath for quite a while, and got beat out every time because of self-imposed price limits. Earlier this week I got a nice one for $23. That to me is reasonable. It does not come with the packaging, but I do not have room for boxes in my already crowded displays anyway.

I found a first type Honesteel recently as well. Again, no box or papers, but with the clamped thong intact, at the 1988 price of $20. I still need the third type, single round hole, but I am in no hurry, and a stockpile of them has hit the market from the buyout. Prices eventually fall, as it seems Schrade had a few pallets of them stashed.

This is a tough sport if you're on a budget, and the "Boss" makes sure I don't get to far into any bidding wars. Those self imposed spending limits are a drag also, I kick myself whenever I let something go for a buck or two more than my limit. Another thing that sometimes limits me is the price of shipping, NO WAY am I going to pay 10$ to have a pocketknife shipped from a couple of states away, I despise shipping gougers, just start the auction at the price you need to.

On the other hand, I'm managed to get some nice knives at the 10$ mark over the years. That brand new STN1 Toughtool at 12 bucks was a steal :D

I haven't bought any of the green OT models, and I probably won't.

But I did buy several of the Tradesman products at very low prices. I doubt very many people are going to seriously collect those, so I bet they'll always be inexpensive.

My 194OT Gunstock Trapper arrived today. Like most of the Old Timers I have gotten from Ebay, I did not expect much, except maybe a "type" knife for my display. But honestly, I can't find a thing wrong with it. I was not surprised to find a very light dusting of rust beginning to form on the carbon steel blade and back spring. It came clean easily with oily superfine steel wool. It has a really good walk and talk, though a bit stiff. Understandable, and I'm sure it will limber up with lube and use. It is not a bad size at all. A tad larger than my EDC, the 897UH, but not as massive as my 296Y. I have never carried a trapper before for some reason. I just always bought and carried stockmen, though I have had a few jack knives over the years, which is what a trapper really is. And for a paltry eight dollars...o.k., plus shipping, it is a good knife. MSRP in the last catalog was $31.45, and I am not sure I would have paid that, but I did buy a 885UH to replace a broken 897UH in 2004, and paid $36.00 for it (MSRP $44.95), so maybe I would have.

Excuse me MR. CODGER,

Was that an entire post about FOLDING knives???

You are potentially escaping from the DARK side, and I'll hold good thoughts for you.

:D :D

The 194OT is a great knife, congrats on a good buy. I got 2, a regular one and one with orange delin scales and a SS blade. I've always liked the series of folders with the brass saftey lock on them, there's a couple I don't have, but I'm working on it. If you small game hunt, its a tough knife to beat for taking care of game. Works nice as a trout knife also.

Folders vs. fixed? Embrace the both sides of the force and when you head out make sure you got a OT in your pocket and one on your belt. Its what any smart Schradi-knight would do.

Embracing both is, of course, the sensible and logical solution...

But it is so much fun to stir the pot a bit.

:D

P. S.
The Sharpfinger is without a doubt, my favorite Schrade designed fixed blade.
But I can't choose from the folders, as I like them all. :)
